@buzz iv had this issue just by not having the time set so the year would be 1969. Setting the correct time fixed it for me. I have a rtc now which solves the issue for me. I think i set it to set the internet time while booting as well, so if my rtc failed it would set the internet time.

@dankcushions Okay cool, thanks! For the bit of time I tried without the speed hack it seemed to run smoothly but I'll turn on the FPS counter to confirm. So the speed hack does exactly what it says, speeds it up, I guess it was self-explanatory after all.

when sshing into the pi does the drive show up when running dmesg? if not this could be a power issue. remember the PI's don't always give enough power for drives. if it does can you manually mount and access the drive?

the writing is linux loading. it is important to see what it says as it will show any errors etc here.

I have noticed that the down button frequently double clicks in ES menus, and the start and coin buttons are messed up, my coin button for player one also is set as sstart for player two in some mame games.
i think the only option is a fresh instal and start again.

Press F4 on the Keyboard, this will close EmulationStation and drop you to the command line.

Type the following command line: sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie-setup.sh

Select Manage Packages --> Core Packages --> EmulationStation --> Configuration --> EmulationStation

Select Clear/Reset Emulation Station Input Configuration

Exit out of the RetroPie Setup script.

Reboot your Pi using: sudo reboot (I think reboot exists in raspbian, otherwise I normally use sudo shutdown -r -t 0 now)

the thing is, if I put in a sd card with raspbian, the keyboard works just fine. also I dont have another hub.
however, because for some reason it will work when im exited from emulationstation, i can use the terminal. the reason why I even am trying to use the keyboard is so i can set up a controller to work, (a rock candy xbox one controller wired) so is there a way I can set up the controller, then just unplug the keyboard and use the controller from then on?

@cesarabandeira I'm not sure how you got the dependency issue, but it must be due to some packages installed. Can't reproduce it on my rpi. Might just be easiest to back up settings and use a fresh image - or maybe aptitude could help (probably need to install it).

@seeker But, sorry, a noob question. I plug the USB with the roms (zipped), anyone in its folders, and when I turn on the Raspi, all the roms will be transferred to Retropie, isn't it? Well, I have to wait the yellow light stops blink. But, I waited near six hours :S and it continues blinking. I turnoff the raspberry. Is it normal? I'm really sorry to ask something so simple, but... I suppose I'm very clumsy. And I was looking for an answer, but nothing.

@cjdawson Please post your Kodi log (http://kodi.wiki/view/Log_file) and also describe everything that you have connected to the Raspberry Pi.

I also tried xboxdrv recommended by someone on reddit, that didnt work too

@nabz32x - this might be a silly question but you are pressing enter before pressing your required buttons? I mean, for example, you press down arrow to go to player 1 button 1 - press enter and then press the relevant button on the controller.....

I'm seeing this in the console output:
evdev: Found 'Xbox Gamepad (userspace driver)' at '/dev/input/event17'
evdev: reading mapping file: 'controller_xboxdrv.cfg'

so from what I can tell it's using evdev and loading my gamepad at /dev/input/event17 which is the xbox gamepad defined in xboxdrv
