    @dsquared

    I am unable to deselect "en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8" or select "en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8" When I attempt to select

    en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8" I can not place a * in the [ ]. I am unable to remove the * from the "[ ] en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8" line. I leave the cursor on "[ ] en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8"

    how are you selecting/deselecting? on a keyboard it's the space bar, and then you need to use the tab key to select 'OK' (and then enter to use it).

    @greenhawk84 said in How often do you fresh build?:

    Hello, just curious about something I have never done until I have to with a new Pi model or mandatory change, which is start over again with a fresh install. How often do you do this?

    Like others here, I also don't do it without good reason, e.g. when I switched from my Pi 3b to my new Pi 4 last spring. I also have customised my installation pretty much, so a new installation would require a good amount of re-configuration, even if most configurations can just be copied over from the old system.

    I often wonder if so many updates through a package update eventually cause regressions.

    RetroPie is built on Linux which in my long lasting experience doesn't "litter" the system over time as much as Windows does. You usually don't have to clean up or re-install a standard Linux system at all. As far as I can tell as a mere (power) user, RetroPie itself is also pretty neatly designed in the same way, so you shouldn't fear any regressions by just updating it via the RetroPie setup.

    All that said, one important thing for any system is to back it up on a regular basis. Apart from failed updates or operating errors, every hardware can break any day for a number of reasons. See the Docs about Making a Backup.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
    Sorry for not having fully specified my config.
    When writing this very post, I was going through the template for it using the link you provided and came across the question 'usb devices connect'. At this point I thought of trying starting Amiberry without having my 2 Xbox (original) controllers connected, which are in turn connected to my USB hub.
    And guess what...this did the trick! Amiberry now starts fine. I'm able to reproduce the issue so this is really the problem. Disconnecting either one of the 2 controllers will also work. But 2 at the same time won't work. I'm not having any other issues with both connected at the same time. I have a 5A PSU and never seen the rainbow logo with this setup except immediately after power on (bios screen).

    I hope this may help anyone else stumbling upon this in the future.

    @pmdci you have to open the Retroarch menu when you are running a game. Go to Quick Menu, Options, then Controls. Set the player 1 to Atari joystick (or something similar to that). That will allow you to use the start key on your controller.

    Same for the Atari 800 if you are running that portion of the emulator.

    @mark1986 would you mind elaborating on how you did this? I have my games booting from USB, and want my saves to go to my USB as well so I can take it out and put it in my handheld and resume save state

    Connect it in Xinput or Switch mode, re-configure it in EmulationStation, and see if the issue persist.

    @jamrom2 Thanks for confirming this.

    @richard-baker Before doing @jamrom2's last point ("Go back to your PC …"), you'll have to enable SSH in RetroPie. See the Docs for instructions, I recommend "(Option 2) From the RetroPie menu".

    @george-spiggott Here is a guy that just installed the latest dolphin with vulkan support and says Wii Mario Kart is getting 17 to 19 fps.

    https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/30339/wii-emulation-performance-using-vulkan-on-pi4?_=1620328997907

    And he's only clocked at 1750 and 600. I don't have time to confirm but if that is true that's a very nice performance increase in only a couple months.

    @omission229 The question should not be will it work, in electronics the question should be how can I make this work? The only limiting factor is your drive to learn and how much work you want to put into a project.

    I ended up just connecting to my Pi via wifi and just selecting/deleting after searching for the correct folders. :)

    @pjft i hear you but there must be a diferrence in the dev code
    as 2.9.4 installed handles extensions ok
    but dev not and its just the binary changed

    I havent looked more into the ES dev as i have removed it when discovered the extension prob and needed to work on something else.
    Latest weird thing happens now , is that video snaps dont play sound unless OMX HW is enabled. Videoscreensaver has no sound whatever i tried. I m using 2.9.3 at the moments as its the last ES that I can start the game from VSCR.

    Im checking one at a time but everytime something fixed something else happens. I have latest OS updates, April FW
    Ill post more. I ll put back 2.9.6 to do more testing on the sound things

    PS i ll test more ES dev but that extensions prob displays rom counts and roms incorrectly

    @mitu Yes, it is!

    So I thought I had better post to say that I solved my own problem. I had to get sync from SCART pin 19 on the Pi2SCART's female connector, not pin 20. I did not know about male SCART leads swapping pins 19 and 20. I hope this post might help somebody else out one day.

    @landyvlad yes. There's a menu item at the top of the optional packages to do that.
