Folly has been working the hell out of the Libretro MESS/MAME core addition to Retropie and just recently dteam and I have been helping him test and tweak the Tandy Coco 1/2/3 setup to be a one-click game play. Setting up the controls hasn't been covered just yet, but we're getting there.

Read the last few posts and see if it interests you. Our goal has been to get MESS involved more as a goto for all the other computer and hand-held games. So they can be used in Retropie...again... one click to it goes right to the program and auto-loads without any user input (or as little as possible)

This is the Tandy Coco3 running in lr-mess with a backgorund I reworked from another artist adding in the proper Tandy screen and other stuff. You can see it's working good. Just haven't gotten the retropad control to work just yet as I haven't been focused on that aspect.

Some arcade-style controllers allow you to use a turbo to make make it seem like you are rapidly spamming a button. Ex: In Street Fighter, certain moves like Chun-Li's Lightning Kick would be executed almost immediately without you spamming buttons.

@mitu that was crazy fast, thank you! Just uncommented it and it actually worked. I thought it was being overriden by the one in [all] but I'm happy to be wrong.

Once the menu is accessed, you can select "Launch with verbose logging."

After you quit the game, the log will be saved to /dev/shm/runcommand.log.

This location is a temp filesystem that only exists in memory. You must access the file while the Pi is running, without shutting down or rebooting. (Specifically, you cannot pull the SD card and read the file off it from another computer.)

Unfortunately, this location is also not accessible via the network share. You should copy it to one that is.

You may have stumbled upon this bug. Can you try updating from source again and try loading a game to see if the palette works ?

@jimmyfromthebay The MAME libretro core has a subpar libretro implementation and a lot of bugs because of it. It should be avoided whenever a game is supported by one of the recommended arcade libretro cores (FBNeo, MAME2003+). FWIW, FBNeo supports those 2 games and has a working dipswitch to toggle between single and dual screen.

@mitu you had helped me before and it was useful to me! in this case, what exactly must be modified to install glide64mk2 on rpi 3? I tested it in a batocera installation and it works very well, I would like to have it in Retropie.

The -dev version has been recently promoted to stable, so both versions of the EmulationStation package are now identical (for the time being, until more things are added to the new dev).

If ES crashes, the log will not be of much help, but a gdb trace (backtrace) might be helpful to see where exactly (in the code) the crash occurs. If you can reliably reproduce the crash, then it might be worth using gdb and capture the trace:

gdb -q /opt/retropie/supplementary/emulationstation-dev/emulationstation - ex run # if there's any crash, gdb will report it and show a prompt thread apply all bt

I can live with that as i am using "favorites" within ES and dont have to browse the gamelists everytime.

@mitu While speaking with NETPLAY, an instant text/voice messaging application for the community (Teamspeak / Mumble / or better: Discord) would be great to find mate to do netplay games. Like i posted into another thread : link text

@webbsmurfen On the PI4, the GPU core freq is 500, not 700. You're confusing it with other value. See https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/config_txt.html#overclocking

An update - I did just try flashing a fresh card with nothing on it and it runs at full speed, so definitely not the Pi or RAM issue. I've uploaded a video here that hopefully shows what's going on. As you can see, the first percentage is 100%+ but the second one shows that not 100% of frames are being rendered, basically it's trying its hardest, but seems like things are being throttled back.
