If you configured a keyboard as controller in ES, I think the initial controller configuration screen would not show

If that's the case - and he gets the normal ES system carousel - then he'll not be able to configure the controller on 1st boot. He would, indeed, need a keyboard.

You have to use PuTTY to type the commands.
Launch PuTTY, enter the raspberry ip and connect.
User: pi
Password: raspberry
From there you connect to the raspberry in ssh and can type the commands.
It takes a little time to update jessie at strech.

@shredman I had some problems installing FS-UAE but got it working great in the end. I had to install directly in debian first from https://fs-uae.net/download#debian then follow the instructions in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/18409/guide-getting-emulationstation-to-work-with-fs-uae

That is exactly the way I have done it. Did look at scripting it but a lot of my Arcade overlays need to move the screen to fit correctly with diferent aspect ratios

yeah i had a dreamcast backup game image with the dreamcast bios on a usb stick, just like the guide told me to, then i put it in the pi, but reicast didn't show up. then i look at the guide and it says to install the emulator you want using the package manager and whatnot. so i guess that's what happened.

@cyperghost My overall goal is to make a pacman & donkey kong machine that has a power button (on/off that saves the current state), and a button that switches games seamlessly (because currently it has to wait for the games to load each time) and hopefully a way to have the credits transfer between games.

Thank you for sharing your solution. The question remains why the save function from the shaders menu doesn't work for you and me, although the RGUI says that it did save the settings.

If you want to dive deeper into the "failed saving config" error, please open another topic about it (for tidiness and all), start any game from that core with verbose logging via the Runcommand menu, try to (fail to) save the config, and post the contents of /dev/shm/runcommand.log in a code block in your new topic. 🙂

You might have saved manually the RA config in RGUI for the NES system, overriding some of the configuration that RetroPie sets automatically. You can check that by looking in \\retropie\configs\nes\retroarch.cfg - if it's a large file with almost all RetroArch options, then you've saved it - or reset it - from the RGUI.
To make the keyboard and gamepads work at the same time, I think you need to have menu_unified_controls = true in the config file.

ok. maybe there's a good samaritan among the "normal" users from the comunity who can help...

its a bug ... after each update, you will need to go to the spashscreen settings and make sure to change them to whatever it was already set to and the problem will be solved.

@Hustler66 They aren't related to the speaker position and are there so that the LED strips do not sit directly behind the marquee. If they did, you would see each individual LED glowing. The position was trial and error to get a well lit marquee without actually seeing dots.
