You need to Install Samba/USB/Send over Rom's via Card. I personally like the samba share and use the IP of the machine to send over ROM's
Log into your PC with the roms
    //IPADRESS/

Go to the rom folder and copy and paste over the roms to correct location is it VERY Simple.

You will not see any games unless you load over the roms, the guides above are perfect this gets asked so much.

As you load the roms for each games they will show up after a reboot

Yeah, I'd pull the SD card out completely and try to boot. You can then check the status lights.

@hellska said in Dynamic IP address 'not stable':

The power supply is 2Amp, is it weak for the WiFi to function properly?

@hellska It probably depends on what else you have attached to you RPi, but the specs for RPi3 say 2.5A is recommended.

Your issue reminds me the behavior of my RPi1 with an external Wifi dongle. I never confirmed it was caused by insufficient power, but the fact was I had a poor 1.5A power supply back then. Using scp (which is consuming bit of CPU btw) was causing my Wifi to disconnect many times.

@Ikyrus said in Help requested for FinalBurn Alpha and SEGA driving games:

What was the problem with the digital controls?

That means you can't turn at X% with digital control (X being a value between 0 and 100), you either don't turn or turn at 100%, which is not how those games were meant to be played, so the gameplay is degraded.
With analog control, you can turn at whatever % you want.

I have successfully gotten everything to work out now! I did a fresh install of Retropie 4.1, and the bluetooth connection worked straight away after installing the drivers. Maybe it is possible that trying to update Retropie from an older version was making something corrupt? I had not updated for probably close to a year or so, if not more. Even though I now have to reload all of my roms and everything, it seems like a small price to pay to get everything running smoothly. :) Hope this helps somebody else too!

After rebuilding a new kernel to help solve my "northwest drift" problem with my Raphnet adapter, I've noticed this seems to be fixed. Maybe a fix was pushed out that I got when I updated prior to patching the kernel? In either case, I tested this with a couple of games, and it now seems to be working like it should.

@rbaker yes I read that mate, good advice but the (RetroPi) SD Card is totally unreadable in any OS I put it in 3 different SD card readers the pc does the 'dur doop' noise to signal new hardware detected but nothing, the best I had was 'removable disk' in Windows Explorer show up and I tried to format only to be told 'F is unreadable' I tried ChkDsk in DOS similar outcome ... All a bit brutal mate, time the SD card met the bin, but I would hope to not have to throw away the Pi too

As you wrote - it's X86/X86_64 only - ie PC not for the RPI.

@santiagozky It seems the issue is not with the USB controllers but with the steam controller. Problems only appear if I unplug the controller's dongle from the PI. I disabled the driver from the setup script and everything is fine now.

@gnome73 said in New to Retro Pi - have some questions:

Im a RPi noob so hence why Im posting... have done some searching and the closest thing I found to answering my questions below is something called Attract but it appears to be a full reinstall of the RPi which I've only just got going so am a bit reluctant to do this

    welcome! :)

    My questions:-

Is there a nicer interface than emulation station ideal for kids? I've seen some youtube videos where there is a very graphical interface when choosing the games and the background wallpaper changes to match the game as you scroll through the list of ROMS - how do I set this up? Also I've seen a youtube clip on the attract mod which shows the ROMs as a grid with the game covers - but dont want to do a full reinstall.

that's attractmode. maybe someone can help you with the install, but i understand that right now it's easiest to use the full image (reinstall)

Also is there a way to go straight to the ROM selection screen and have all ROMs in 1 easy to scroll through list regardless of their Emulator?

it's possible but it would require a LOT of tweaking and file edits.

Is there a way to permanently save high scores from ROMs? I did a search and there was a suggestion to use the latest mame emulator lr-mame2003 (I am Retro Pi 4.1 on a RPi 3). Which leads me onto my next and final question..

    lr-mame2003, yes: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003#high-scores

I tried to run MAME Roms using lr-mame2003 and none would work... upon doing some digging I found that the Neo Geo emulator is used for MAME games? Once i put the MAME Roms in the NeoGeo emulator folder they worked! huh go figure? therefor if I can only run MAME via Neo Geo - will Neo Geo save games?

there's a lot going on here, huh? :) neogeo emulators should save games (why not try and find out?), but if you want to run mame games properly (the neogeo emulators will only run a subset of them), you should have a look at https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs
