You could unzip them to their own separate folders - so each game has it's own folder, then browse the folders and pick the game based on your region.
(U) is USA NTSC 60hz,
(E) is Europe PAL 50Hz,
(J) is Japanese NTSC 60hz.
Just pick the one you want, for each game, then (if space is a issue) zip it back up.

I may have broken this myself in the beginning when i was messing around alot with RetroArch and the controllers.

the docs are transposed from the wiki, but this requires manual intervention. it will happen eventually.

the docs are written on the assumption you have bound 'hotkey' to 'select'. also, there's a long-standing bug in retroarch that means only player 1's controller will register
hotkey combos.

That's complete counter intuitive, the docs should just say, "Hotkey +"

Well, the way it's written, seeing as there is no mention that it might not be pre-installed, very much seems they are pre-installed. I would start any emulator entry that is not installed in the standard official RetroPie image a mention at the beginning along the the likes of, "This emulator is not installed in official RetroPie image, if you want/need it, you will need to install it yourself." would improve understanding, and then a link to where to the explanation on how to do that is located.

i sort of agree, but like i said, this situation is in flux so i don't think it's appropriate to attempt to record it in the docs, as it's another thing to have to maintain.

@mitu I finally tracked down the issue. When the triggers on the controller were initially set the left triggers release was set as the right triggers pull. The system was registering a constant trigger pull and mucking everything up. Thank you for your help though.

That just means the files have the executable bit set, which is not a big deal and shouldn't have an effect on the game/rom being played. The problem is somewhere else.

@mitu I found the splash screen setup option and it was enabled there, so no more splash screen. Splash screen options are found in what, 3 locations?

Uninstalling and reinstalling the xbox controller driver worked as well, mostly. I had trouble in the Sega Master System emulator, but I'm not going to go any further into any issues. I figure a fresh install will be necessary to clean up all the mess I've made. I'm not willing to put the time in at this point.

There's some odd "failed" messages while booting up the pi. Some look like they pertain to mounting my external drive, but it mounts anyway? Odd. I'm just going to leave things as they are for now and eventually start over.

This shader has recently been rewritten by the amazing hunterk at libretro to create this effect at a very low processing cost in mame2003. You might have to tweak the parameters a bit in the retroarch menu or the code. It works great, and scales to fit the screen just like cocktail mode in mame2010.

I solved this with the following steps

Run Command Editor.

Launch Menu > Disabled
Launch Menu Art > Disabled
launch Menu Joystick Control > Enabled

In the end the e35 wasn't powerful enough and required legacy AMD drivers. I ended up with an ASRock AIO board rocking an Intel J3160 and it is flying.

After a huge amount of experimentation Linux Mint XCFE was my final distro. Light enough to keep performance high and startup times low but feature-full enough that I can back out of ES and use it for other things should the mood take me.

My RPi3 kinda got abandoned in the end due to hitting SD card limits or poor performance in PSX and 64 games so with this x86 install giving me that extra oomph, I'm fully invested again!

Same problem for me also. I used to run RetroPie 4.3 on Jessie and had no probems with the PS3 controller or N64 Emulation. I just did a fresh install of RetroPie 4.4 on Stretch fully updated and dist-upgraded. N64Glide emulation doesnt work along with weird bluetooth behavior on PS3. What bluetooth dongle would I need to get to fix the problem? Odd because this problem didn't happen on previous versions on the exact same board.

I'd say your card or filesystem on the card is corrupted. If flashing the RetroPie image on the card doesn't solve this problems, you should get another card.
