@andrewcoughlan Ok - I just tried the 4.2 basic image and it's worked fine. There's something I've done with my images that's throwing it out but I'm just going to rebuild my image and test along the way. Thanks DankCushions for your help!

BTW.....can I set this for the MAME (Mame4all) emulator...? I didn't see it listed in the RetroPie Setup options.

If you do have a retroachievements.org account, you might try logging into their website. Seams like I had this issue once but went away after doing this.

i reinstalled RetroPie 4.2, before i used v3.6 with xBoxdrv

I would recommend disabling Xboxdrv and only using the Xpad driver. There's an issue with the Xboxdrv and the Linux kernel(s) used since version 3.8.x of RetroPie.

@ibiza7 Then you should be able to select the language inside the game if it indicates more than one language (One example is Crash team racing, where you can select the language at the start of the game)

@heinstein also, if you fix the first file you listed you wont have to configure any more configs

what is the resolution are you running it in.
i ask this due to when i changed mine to a lower res. when i tried to get to the menu to exit i would just get a black screen.

as for your button problem i can not say. have you just to map it to a working key just to see if you can get it to work in general?

im using a 8bitdo nes30 pro and my mapping works like a charm.
i did come across something odd.

when i would start the game once my controller would be JS0, and if i would exit and then start the game again it would be JS1. so i would have to map the key twice. once as JS0 and then JS1. dont know why but it works so i don't care. don't know if you are getting something like that

Come to think of it, I have one too as part of a multi-function Pi hat that someone gave me last Christmas. I haven't tried it out either. There's really no reason why they wouldn't work with any of the software after being added.

@isayno The pi3 needs 2 to 2.5 amps by it's self to run well. If the screen is pulling power from the pi I think that is your problem. I couldn't find a manual for your screen but in the remarks on Amazon's site saying he had some problems. I will paste it here:
"Works pretty well and Does what I need it to do. I followed the instructions others have posted to get the pi to display to the screen and it works perfectly. Has a weird quirk which I cant seem to figure out. I decided not to power the screen from the USB of the pi so that I don't have any power issues when the pi is running. But if my power source is separate I.e 1 power source for the pi then another for the screen nothing will display on to the screen. However if I have 1 power source lets say a battery bank with 2 USB ports and the pi and screen are powered off that everything works fine. But once I power the screen on separate battery bank nothing is displayed again. Weird but for my application they're on the same power source anyways."
It looks like the power source for the pi and the screen needs to be from the same source. My guess is the ground may be the issue but I have no other info. Hope this helps.

Soul Calibur has a 1S version and a 4S version, and I cannot find any differences between them.

Deleted /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg, then reconfigured the input in ES, now it works. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@nialithe My best guess is the permissions are messed up on your rom directories (this can happen if you copy roms/folders as root). The simplest way to fix is to run the following from from the RetroPie_Setup script: C Configuration / Tools -> 821 resetromsdir. This will fix permissions and you should be able to save. Another possibility is that you disk is full, but you'd likely see other problems if this were the case.
