@henk Seeing as you CRT has Scart inputs it would be a downgrade to pair it with a Composite cable when the CRT has support for RGB. Look into PI2SCART or Recalbox RGB Dual instead and save yourself the hassle and trouble.

I used 2003+ and the issue went away, very happy with it:)

Do understand that it is my first foray into emulation so there are plenty of things I'm not aware of(yet).

I'm using zero because I had it for a different project that didn't need it in the end. I hate having unused stuff around me and always look for ways to repurpose them. I understand that it is not fast enough, but I think it will do for now as I've only added pac-man, arkanoid, donkey kong, galaga, Tetris, asteroids and bubble bobble, games that might not be too taxing(I hope). Before the cabin is ready I will switching all of them to 2003+ and try to play enough to see if they lag, crash etc.

Thank you all for the help, much appreciated:)

As of 2024, I can confirm that @akafox's method still works.
In our case, we had two generic SNES-like controllers and a third generic PS3-like controller plugged in.
After pressing Select-X to get into the emulator menu:
The first two controllers had many controller type options.
The third controller only had retropad available.

On controller #1, we selected 3 button + 4 way tap.

Then reset the emulation from inside the menu.
    Voila, 3 players.

This works, but I'll need to test across other games which hopefully will not involve more than sorting out correct button mappings. I noticed that for scummvm, its only backend options are for SDL2 and therefore will not work (as far as I can tell) with xboxdrv.

That's because ScummVM is already a SDL2 application and there's no need for a compatibility shim like sd12-compat.

It's looking to me as if xboxdrv may be a bit of a dead end when it comes to button remappings for non-libretro emulators in RetroPie. Can such remappings be done in SDL2 or is there another option that could be applied system-wide?

Not dead, just not widely used. xboxdrv itself is mostly feature complete and there's little development nowadays, since compatibility with Xbox controllers is offered OOB by Linux kernel modules (xow, xpad, xpadneo).

There are no alternative re-mapping solutions in RetroPit, though anything that works in Linux and without X11/Wayland could work.

We don't support 3rd party images, especially the ones loaded with ROMs. Please install the RetroPie image from retropie.org.uk/download and report back if you have the same issue with it.

@mitu said in Error updating to the latest version of Retroarch:

You can delete the cores folder and it the .info files will be re-downloaded on future updates.

    Awesome. Thank you!

've seen this error message, but I don't understand what it means because the emulator doesn't seem to be in software mode. It might be related to RetroArch. If you have enabled the Vulkan driver in your setup, you can get rid of this error by using the Vulkan driver in RetroArch for this core

[ERROR] Requesting OpenGL context, but RetroArch is compiled against OpenGLES. Cannot use HW context. [ERROR] [Environ]: SET_HW_RENDER - Dynamic request HW context failed. [ERROR] [Environ]: SET_MESSAGE_EXT: Unable to find or open hardware renderer for frontend preferred hardware context. Falling back to software renderer.

    @mitu

Apparently i have reinstall all package manually from section "core" (retroarch, emulationstation, retropiemenu, runcommand and latest joy2key).
Apparently retroarch and emulationstation it's recompiled from source........

When all procedure it's completed all games back to works........

If i found some core present a similar issue......... if not update it's ready i go to reinstall/recompile manually from source and see if back to works.

I have just found the issue whit Retropie_setup script and joy2key apparently not works if i launch it from emulationstation..... but i have already reply on other thread about this specific issue.

@cheesymonkey please don't bump ancient topics.

For your controller model, you should install the xpadneo driver and then (re-)map the controller in EmulationStation, you don't need xboxdrv unless nowadays unless you're trying to set-up some special mapping (i.e. emulate 4way joysticks, keys pressed on button combo, modify the deadzone, etc.)

If you still have issues after installing xpadneo with the gamepad, please open a separate topic.

Please add some info about your setup, as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

    Is the sound/audio working in-game ?
