There's little info here, but if the controller is not detected at all (even in EmulationStation), maybe there's something wrong with the controllers or the USB ports on the Pi. Do they get detected when plugged in a windows PC ?

Thanks for providing the log file. I don't notice anything different between the 2 runs, so it's not something related to a configuration.
Try removing pulseaudio completely then reboot the system, this might get rid of any PA interference.

I've had this problem recently with Legend of Mana for psx. It was the controller type that was set to analog, but the game refused to work until I changed it back to standard and restarted it. Some cores/games are a bit finicky with analog controllers and how they're configured, in my experience. Try messing with that option to see if solves you problem.

Actually there is a configuration to make EmulationStation look automatically for media (video/boxart/marquee) - it's called 'Enable Local Art', in the Other settings.
When enabled, EmulationStation it will look for images/<game>-image.png, images/<game>-video.mp4 and images/<game>-marquee.png (.jpg work also) and use the found media instead of looking in the gamelist.xml.

Nice one mitu, this will save me quite a bit of time, as I am spending a lot more time on the retropie, than before, due to lockdown and furlouh. Sorry Vegasdude, didn't realise you knew about the paths and that, I probably read too much in your question. Never mind Mitu has given us both a good solution :-)

tekken 1-3 and ridge racer is great on a playstation emulator, but i tried tekken 2 on current MAME and it was a slide show, and even that doesn't have complete emulation yet. it may run ok on some of the older mames, but the emulation will be incomplete most likely.

So EmulationStation runs Runcommand.sh internally? It doesn't have to be called by an sh file? What about just dosbox? I have no problems executing the sh files with that in emulationstation or cli. Only reason I use lr-dosbox is because I can't seem to control the volume of my monitor's speakers directly.

You're starting to smell a little trolly. You might want to get that checked out. But if you're being serious then you should post things that positively help the community. Bumping your own post with the same question over and over isn't the best way to get started.

triggerhappy runs as a service when your system starts. Unless you've disabled it, it should read the configuration file and do the actions configured.
