I am new to this game as well, but before anyone asks, I know one person who is sick and tired of saying it, you need to fill in/read this first, that way you will get more help.
    https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

As for your questions, even though I am still a novice I may be able to help on A

If you hit the Start key and bring up the main menu, you can go down to UI settings, and change the themes etc. On the Gamelist View Style, there is an Automatic option, every timeI have used this it will display both boxart and video's. It also does the same with video's settings.
If your getting black when it fades from the boxart image, it may not necessarily mean the video isn't there. It may have scraped but the video doesn't have the right codec for the Pi. I myself had this issue.
If you follow this guide https://github.com/hiulit/RetroPie-Convert-Videos it may help with any non-playing videos. It certainly did mine.
Also if you look in the Media or images folder that is associated with the system you are playing on you can see what images are there, and what videos.
Put on your PC a program called WinSCP and you can look at your pi directory from the PC and do all the necessary from that.

B0 I am sure somebody will correct me, but also if you use WinSCP you can look in the Media/image folder for MAME and you might find the image used for emulationstation. But you will probably have to edit the .cfg file associated with this, in order to display the image you want.

Hope it has been some help.

@melbmatt50 said in 8bitdo SF 30 Pro Controller not charging or pairing properly:

Trying to get help with my SF 30 Pro controller. I have recently reformatted an sd card and installed a fresh image on it for my 3b+. For some reason when I press the appropriate keys to pair it to retropie, despite finding it, the options are not the same and it doesnt appear to pair properly.

The only light which I can get to appear on the controller is the red light near the usb connection which blinks. This it also does during charging through its usb cable, which from what I have read should be a solid light. I don't know why it is doing these things and if possible I would just like to factory reset the controller and start out as if it was a new one.

Holding on the Y button and pressing start is what got it working for me doing it the Xbox controller method for some reason just doesn't want to work and my R1 and L2 doesn't want to register when configuring the controller so Switch or Dinput would be your best bet.

Is ReDream the one with the GUI?

I used FlyCast and it .... worked.... One of the emulators crashed on me but I don't recall which one. I'll try ReDream again as it did load but seemed a little goofy but that's probably due to my inexperience with it. Took me a few minutes to realize the mouse was working and had to exit using the commands and not through RetroArch. I'll give it another whirl.

Part of the problem is not really having anything off the top of my head that I would specifically play on Dreamcast. Nearly everything over the years that I had has either aged terribly and not worth the trouble or has been updated or remade on better systems.

PSO has been redone and done better, Skies of Arcadia is on GameCube, etc.

Please show us in a codeblock the output of the commands that @Norm gave you, when the drive is mounted in Ubuntu or Retropie (they are Linux commands, so no point to enter them in Win 10).

What did you do exactly in both systems, step by step? E.g. which tools did you use to copy the roms onto the drive?

Can you save your Spectrum collection in any other directory? Can you save it partly in the directory/ies that you can't save it completely in?

Several issues. My spashscreen video during a reboot slowed to a crawl. Also, several emulators just run at a craw as well. Also, lost all my Stella mapping settings.

No worries, I will just use vice. I just miss the ability to set game specific settings as I would with an lr core.

Thanks for your help as always.

We don't recommend in-place upgrades, and neither Raspbian.

One thing to know is that the new Buster images have a larger boot partition to accomodate larger kernel sizes. It might not be a problem now, but in the future this might pose an issue.

This would explain a lot. Since it seems only a software issue, let's hope for the near future.

    Thank you very much!

    @Brunnis said in Retro Pi 4.6 - Pi4 /4kTV slow loading:

I seem to remember you can limit the pixel clock instead, but I haven't tried it.

Yes, it's possible, though this will disable the 4k video modes completely.

Also, given the performance issues with 4K, wouldn't it be better to have RetroPie be limited to 1080p max out of the box, with an easy way to enable 4K if the user wishes?

This is exactly what the hdmi_mode/hdmi_group settings do - set 1080p video mode by default, with the ability to choose 4k via runcommand (though performance will not be great). Kodi/Pixel desktop would still be able to use those modes for 4k HEVC movies/normal desktop.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to configure the video so that 'if 4k is available, use 1080p by default', so instead of forcing 1080p by default for all configurations, it's something that the user must configure after installation.

Please add more info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
What resolution does the GamePi20 support ? You can try using raspi-config and specify the boot resolution to match the one supported by the display.

@spacepilot7132 are you using an official RetroPie image? Anytime you have odd behavior you should turn off your overclocking and retest.
