I went through controller setup again. This time I made the XBox button my Hotkey. Now I can start games by pressing Start and Right Trigger and I can exit a game to the main menu by pressing XBox button and Start. The Start button by itself, however, does nothing.

I should mention that the Start button works by itself flawlessly as you would expect from within Emulation Station to bring up the main menu. It's only within the actual games themselves that I have to use the weird Start/Right Trigger combination.

Any ideas?

@mitu - Thanks for the link. I added the system environment variables mentioned in the ARCH wiki and verified the were set and showed up using vainfo. VLC itself still was accelerated (~30% CPU), emulationstation was still not @~165% cpu

@Tephra If using Win32diskImager unzip as @quicksilver mentioned, or if using Etcher you can flash the image directly to the sd card.

This is the power supply that I'm using with my pi3, I am also using the super kintaro case. I have had no issues with this power supply and I'm overclocked.

Just an update to reclaim my thread. ;)

This has been working just fine for me. Haven't seen a lightning bolt since I started using it. Only hardwired 3A cables for me from now on. Thank you all for your suggestions. :)

@taunnt Does /dev/shm/runcommand.log contain anything after running daphne? If so, please show it to us in a command block.

Mind that /dev/shm is a ram disk, so it will lose all contents on shutdown or reboot.

@thekraftyman if you log out of Ubuntu and then log back in with "wayland mode" that will fix the gl driver issue

@cmscss Yes... the multi_switch.sh script always provides safe shutdowns.

Deepsleep happens if after shutdown the red LED still glows. So you need a power device that cuts power after shutdown. But no script can change the behaviour without the hardware parts.

But deep sleep is a very cheap alternative to those power devices. You may try it out ;) Just connect any switch to GPIO3 and ground (it's pin 5 and 6 on the Pie header) only this GPIO enables a repowering after shutdown ;)

@qnsht Assuming you have mapped correctly your controller, open the RetroArch RGUI while in game, then change your gamepad type to analog - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#analog-controller-type.

Thanks, that's exactly what I ended up doing.

I had hesitated with UXS for a while because I never thought I could get it to work.. turns out it was just generating the xml in a directory/folder I wasn't expecting.
