Thanks I think that works, It doesn't change the button pictures on the setup but it says swapped.

So hotkey + x will open Retroarch now, is that right?

install mk_arcade_joystick_rpi driver from ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh edit /etc/modprobe.d/mk_arcade_joystick_rpi.conf adding the following line : options mk_arcade_joystick_rpi map=5 gpio=5,6,13,19,21,4,26,12,23,20,16,18

Did you re-configure the controller after switching modes ?

@Simrose in retroarch, go to:
quick menu -> controls -> port 1 controls -> analog to digital type -> left analog
Then you can map digital and analog in the mame menu as you wish.

@russs15 Thats the exact adaptor I got that never worked with retro pie properly for me. It might be an issue with a driver that changed higher up the chain that's not related to RetroPie itself but raspian, or even in the core linux kernel.

Hi, Can you give some pointers on how you did it?
I would like to do the same for a ps4 controller.
I tried editing the config file but I can't figure out the bindings (number) of my controllers buttons. I checked the emulstation config file for the bindings but they're not the same?

The order is alphabetical by default, and EmulationStation shows them in the order they appear in the configuration file (es_systems.cfg). You can create your own es_systems.cfg and re-arrange them in the file as you want - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/EmulationStation/#es_systemscfg-edits.

@Brunnis I ended up just reflashing with the stable release, and loading old saves. Now I'm having an issue with one game(Azure Dreams) on psx, where when I goto the save card selection screen it and choose slot 1 it hangs. The spinning save card graphic plays, but it accepts no input other than opening the retroArch gui, or hard stopping the game. I'll try some things to see if i can get it working, but it's been frustrating to say the least.

I had the same issue, found it was to do with my virus checker taking control of allowable "apps" in Windows 10, got round it by disabling virus checker (McAfee), when hooking up to my pi.
you might also want to check the Windows firewall.

I also just tried group 63 for 1080P with 120HZ and got the same result

Got it sorted! Phew.

Had to go back into the retrogame.cfg file and tell it that pin 16 was 'w' and pin 26 was 'q'. I had them set as space and enter and even though i had done configuration in emulation station, they stayed as start and enter in the actual game.....

you know what i did. i just did a fresh install - retropie 4.6 image. thanks for all the info and help, but a fresh install isnt that hard, it takes a couple of hours and then everything is working fine. also, the time and effort needed to upgrade the whole lot with all side complications possible - and having to resolve them -, that would perhaps take longer than just simply imaging the whole sd card to a disk image (.img) then flash it with retropie 4.6 and then mount the .img and return the whole lot to its folders.
