      @hurricanefan

      So the only things I plan on adding are a trackball, some low profile casters for the back, and some levelers for the front. I didn't know exactly what casters I wanted before starting the build, or else I would have cut them in before I built it. It's not that big a deal to do it after the fact, but I'm worried about getting a bunch of saw dust between the plexi and the monitor which will be a royal pain to clean. Other than that, I just picked up an 8 bitdo bluetooth controller to supplement playing on some of the console systems. I haven't had time to play or sync it with the arcade yet. So far, that's about it. Maybe I'll come back with some updates once I've played with it for awhile. It seems there are always some things you would do differently once you own things for a while!

      Well, I've half-answered my question. I somehow suspected CEC to be an issue, and lo, when I changed hdmi_ignore_cec_init to hdmi_ignore_cec, ES stalls on launch, spits out "lvl0: CECInput::mAdapter->Open failed", runs, and then works perfectly, so it's probably an issue with the libcec I'm using.

      @grant2258 ... oh wow! That’s a great idea... it could include battery status etc... I just bought an iPad battery for this setup, I’ll publish the latest build video soon... a little more editing to do to make it flow better... most things on my channel are Dubious:) ... health and safety takes a back seat (stupidity prevails)...

      I've only just started but had a look around for recommended keyboards and the reviews of such. Finally I went for the Rii mini wireless keyboard, it's great, very responsive and comes with all the options you can think of. Plus it is cheap. I am now putting one on order for my work, as the wireless one I have now is full size, granted it has touchpad and number keys, but so does the Rii mini. The BIGGEST advantage with the Rii is it can fit in your pocket! Other advantages are you can actually hear when you press a key, so there should be no miss typed coding.

      So I went back to this project and changed the controllers from the old D-Sub sockets into USB sockets... Had to replace the old PCB with a newer one though, as it seemed to be gone for good.

      Its quite ok, if you ask me. I use a three meters long HDMI cable and it does not bug me while playing :)
      At first I wanted all ports at the top, but it didn't fit :(

      @ruckage Not fan of these emulator boxes. There are way too many other emulation boxes that do a better job like the Nvidia Shield TV. Original OEM Hardware will always be the best and can never truly be replaced. You can use your carts, flash carts, HDMI adaptors, original pads, pheriperals, no lag, and no glitches. Ps i’m looking for parts to repair my PC Engine let me know if you plan on selling the original motherboard.

      @jfrmilner Thanks for the kind praise. My answer about multiplayer games is going to come from the arcade game options, as my build obviously has that emphasis. There is another thread here somewhere that lists all of the 4-player games (4-player MAME lists can also be found online). But I have far far less than a full ROMset loaded on my system--I load games as I learn about them. That said, it is hard to beat a good game of 4-player Gauntlet and Gauntlet 2. Try Xenophobe. Then, there are the fighter games like X-men, or the Simpsons and TMNT. Battletoads has 3 player capability, Rampage is fun. Then there is a handful of sports titles. Stone Ball is super fun! NBA Jam, and a few racing games like Super Sprint.

      My build looks like a 4-player cabinet, but remember, many classic arcade games have the CRT oriented vertically, so for those, even though they are not 4-player games, I play them from the vertical sides of the cabinet (players 3 and 4) to get the best, full-screen experience.

      Okay I've almost finished my long dead project but I'm having trouble wiring in the GBA's controller board into the Pi in a way that it recognizes it as a configurable controller. Can I do this or am I trying to do something that's simply not possible?

      @nasp2000 @caver01 I made a hacked version of Metapixel that is vertical, for my little cab (it's an iCade with a Pi in it, I should do a build thread).

      Yes, please do! Also, have you shared your theme? Might be that others could use it or take it as a basis for further development.

      I don't plan to have every game launchable via Amiibo. That would be insane. I'm just configuring it to launch specific games based on the Amiibo scanned. For example, right now Zero Suit Samus will launch Metroid Zero Mission, any Link Amiibo will launch Link's Awakening and any character's Golf card from the Mario Sports card set will launch Mario Golf.

      @obsidianspider I suppose a smooth, injection molded part would not bind up the same, right? I wonder if there is a workaround for smoothing out this area such as a coating of epoxy or bondo that could be sanded nice and smooth without enlarging. Tedious and tiny, I know. Another thought would be to try a set of buttons you don’t care about and remove the orientation tabs. Maybe it’s the angled spots where the tabs are that bind up.
