@BuZz said in Retropie On Debian:

@NY152 you will need to run retropie under the desktop on your system. Please post logs for any error you got installing as @mitu mentioned. Thanks.

      Astonishing ...

      NO error during installation.

The problem with Debian is that you can not run EmulationStation in console mode (it does not detect a display)

Under ArchLinux, no worries without any desktop environment. EmulationStation starts and runs the emulators itself without any problem.

So saying that an office environment is mandatory is a totally false.

I will look for myself since without thinking more than that, the office environment is for you indispensable, you consider this as normal, not me

      thanks anyway

Awesome! I set up open box to start with 1280x720, verified it via the log, and it worked perfectly with the threading set false. Looks way better than it did set true, has better response/less lag, and of course the screensaver doesn't kill it after 10 minutes.

Thanks so much for your help with my problem.

@marcoabm Raspbian on a pc is untested, but we can't help without more info.

Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

You will need to provide a full log.

Based on your reply, I deleted and recreated the container and installed RetroPie immediately afterwards. It worked! It's installing now. I'm guessing there was some other package conflict with another app installed. Thank you for your help.

YAY! got it working thanks to https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/18409/guide-getting-emulationstation-to-work-with-fs-uae

Had to install fs-uae manually first because of the gpg error then try to install with retropie-setup then follow the step above

      All you guys rock :)

Time to go shoot some guys in Walker

well i just double checked which one i have just remove xboxdrv and tried to install xpad but ran in to the package that is unavailable of the linux-headers-generic and what i have been reading it is not available on Debian it goes by the Linux version and the architecture.

      (edit)
well i manuly installed dkms then had to go in to the script in the retropi setup for xpad and comment out the depenicy for linux-headers-generic since the needed linux-headers for the current linux verson was automatically installed when i manually installed dkms so i commented it out so the installer would continue and install xpad and that worked.

@Kalamabrew su is not sudo, they're different programs. I understood you're not able to use sudo - you'll have to investigate more on how to enable sudo for your user and then re-do the installation.

      @mitu for sure

Hello @johnodon, good morning, how are you? Dear, please ask a question regarding the installation:

I have a small problem with my installation.
I use the Ubuntu server, running on a notebook with a processor:
      Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU at 2.30 GHz
After following the step-by-step configuration, I have detected this error when booting the system:

      "Last login: Monday, December 4 03:37:51 2023
There is no such key “default-show-menubar”
There is no such key “default-show-menubar”

      My version of Ubuntu is

      Description: Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS
      Release: 22.04
      Codename: jammy
I emphasize that when the system starts, the control image appears in the shape of a cupcake, then the error appears.
      What can this be?
      thanks

Retropie 4.4.1+ on Mint 19, Ubuntu 16.04 & 18.04, Debian 8 & 9 - Black Screen when Starting Roms (GL->SDL2 Fixes). I think its an issue with Retropie, not Linux.

@phoenixjedi For a PC, with enough CPU, it won't affect the performance. You're free to use both options and see the difference, if any. Note that RetroArch defaults to not activate this option by default on Pc builld.

And please use markdown when posting logs. Click the question mark in top right of edit box for help. Use a code block to improve formatting. This is detailed in the post linked at the top of every forum page (and in my signature below).

      Thanks.

@jonnykesh It may well work on Debian 9 - we just dont yet support Stretch on the RPI . We recommend Ubuntu though for the PC as it's what we test on.

Their issue is likely driver related but cannot advise with so little information.

@snowcherry no. Updating packages alone won't update Raspbian version.

Raspbian stretch is not yet released officially afaik.

@Rydra IMHO putting it on github and providing a script to install it is the best way to provide it to RetroPie users.
