I actually just did something similiar which worked perfectly. I just took an in game video clip with my phone. I installed the Pixel environment. I uploaded it to youtube. Then used youtube2mp3 to convert it to an mp4. I downloaded it to the pi via Pixel. renamed it to the game name-video.mp4. Placed it in the images folder. Then i rebooted and selected the game and edited the meta data with the file path under video. Then saved and exited. Works perfectly. Now i can do that on the other 3 games i do not have videos for and the ones that wont play and i should be golden.

Why not just use Steven selphs scraper? Works great, even with videos

Turns out the only gamelist that was created was in ~/RetroPie/roms/retropie/gamelist.xml , (there was only this single one on my whole disk, and I did search for hidden files, too).
But in the retropie_setup.sh -> tools -> scraper options, I had disabled (or forgotten to enable) that the .xmls be put in their respective rom directories.
So I deleted the single gamelist and image folder (that contained metadata for >10 systems), scraped again, since I really couldn't be bothered with manually sorting metadata for >4k Roms into different folders, and this time everything was saved to the right locations!
Thank you very much for providing me with the correct locations, the problem is solved now and the thread can be closed.

Thanks it was the way they format what I type in. I modified it for easier reading.

So after alot of google'ing and scraping i think the problem vanished, i tried to use the Universal XML Scraper and it seems to have successfully overwritten the buggy boxart stuff, never find out why the problem started though ^^

Ultimately, it doesn't matter too much. You can just leave it in the folder structure that your preferred scraper creates, or change it entirely. As long as gamelist.xml points to the correct location, use whatever strikes your fancy.

The exception to this is that runcommand prefers there to be an images folder inside each system if it is going to use individual rom launching pictures. I don't know if there is a way to change that default location.

I just completed all of the FDS updates this morning. I'm particularly proud of these images since they were all made from scratch with nothing but the labels and a large disk image as a template.

Note that these images were reduced in size by 50% because they were too large to upload here at around 1.8MB each!

@fabio78 said in Retropie 4.4 SD card images?:

Seems like a new version is only justifiable when there are enough updates containing meaningful changes accumulated since the last release, or some game-changer features

Or perhaps it's entirely dependent on when the devs have free time to work on it ;)

We don't have a regular release schedule to preserve our sanity.

Do you just want a different image for each system or do you want a random image for a single system?
Anyway, as far as I know there is no way to randomize any value that can be used as path/filename to images.
Having a different image for each system can be done by either using the system folder theme.xml or by using variables as paths/filename.
If you need/want to have different colors for each system as well, you have to use the old system folder theme.xml otherwise I would suggest to use variables.

Sselph's graphical menu from the RetroPie-Setup options is fairly limited - it's the command line where it really comes into its own.

In essence, quit ES by pressing F4 (scraping whilst ES is running usually doesn't work very well). cd to the roms directory and then into your console of choice and then run the following:

    /opt/retropie/supplementary/scraper/scraper -add_not_found -download_images -download_marquees -download_videos -console_src ss,gdb -console_img mix4,3b,b,s,f,l -image_dir=boxart -image_path=boxart -img_format png -video_dir=snap -video_path=snap -marquee_dir=wheel -marquee_path=wheel -marquee_format png -image_suffix="" -video_suffix="" -marquee_suffix="" -missing "games_missing.csv"

Please note, I've been separating out video snaps and marquees in prep for an Attract Mode build so you may want to adjust accordingly. To break the command down, it's scraping a mixed mode image from screenscraper and putting into a 'boxart' folder within the console's rom folder (-console_img mix4,3b,b,s,f,l means it looks for a mixed image first, then 3d box art, then boxart, then screenshot etc). It's then doing the same for video snaps and marquee images and all images will be output as png. I've also set it to output any missing titles into a csv for reference. If you didn't want videos, you could just remove the -download_videos flag.

If you are a Windows user you can run this directly on your roms folders via DOS if you download the DOS version of Sselph scraper.

    Hope that helps.

@phulshof said in Scrapes of full romsets available?:

finding corresponding game sets is rather easy. :)

In your (or my) case certainly ;) because I think you already have a "clean" romset, or a well known romset like NO-INTRO without renamed file ;)

but I can garanty it's not always so easy ;) I have associated manually about 4000 Roms to there own games (on 470000+ Screenscraper DB have) and sometime it's a real pain in the A. to match a file like "XmZ2.zip" to the good game ;) Even when you know on wich system it is ;)

That's why I spoke about a "universal" file... It's just impossible it works on 100% case (even 80% will be a miracle ;) )

I have an eye on what UXS Scrape in the world and what is found or not by the API on Screenscraper (API Error Result Page) and every day their is lot's of.... "silly thing ?"
Gameboy game scraped as MegaCD game,
    File like "_1.zip",
    100Ko Iso file,
    And so much different case...

An other thing, creating theses files mean creating a "new" local DB... because it will be very hard to have "complete" file.
You always found someone who have the "special Hack Edition Unrealeased merged Turbo ' Alpha 2 zero Russian translation".
That's why DB like Screenscraper, TheGameDb, and others were created ;)

The only way it "may" works is to create these files only for Known Full romset. Like NO-INTRO, retrobution, Tosec,... But it mean 1 file by System and 1 file by romset creator... A huge work to do ^^

In any way, feel free to take what you need on Screenscraper ;) it's CC ;)
(And if your work is in the same "mind" with better info/media, we will certainly ask if it's possible to reverse the process to fill the DB ;) )

But i didnt used the scraper function at all .
I used an image to install retropie with roms and everything .
Start it up and all info and images are there next to the games .

I add 3 psx games with my usb stick , restart retropie and all the images and info are gone next to the games . Only the gamelist is there .

Without using scraper for those 3 psx games i added .
