@ben63 Try setting Device type to just Retropad.
Your current setting only applies to certain games that support analog control. (for example some ps1 games)
I've noticed some issues with my controller when I had the same setting, so I only set Device type to Retropad /w analog for the PS1 and N64 games that support analog control.
If you set device type to Retropad and Analog to digital to Left analog, you can control the game with both dpad and the thumbstick.
Also don't forget to save your settings (either to the game or the core).

@caelthunderwing I'm using 'Reicast' on PC. Removed Reicast then updated the retropiesetup script, came from 4.2 to 4.4.1 Then I installed Reicast and updated from source, not sure that was necessary...

@mememinister , I am trying to do the same thing but can't get my mapping working manually. Only through the ES menu Configuration Input. Do you do your mapping in es_input.cfg or in retroarch.cfg? My retroarch.cfg gets ignored or at least that is what it seems like. Do you have a little manual how you did the mapping?

The supported tweaks also yield the best results by far. Setting a television to game mode alone feels like the difference between night and day. Setting even all of the possible unsupported tweaks feels more like the difference between night and a bit later that night.

@mitu said in 8bitdo dosent work in bluetooth mode:

@lesk You would pair it just like for a PC (Windows). Normally just press Start for 3 seconds and it will start to blink blue with one pulse. I'd suggest you reset the controller to the defaults, remove the BT pairing from RetroPie and start again using the PC mode and do the pairing and then reconfiguring in ES.

I did this. But still it does not work in any game. Only in Emulationstation as I stated before.

I tried one thing last night. While connected via bluetooth I went into config and then retroarch.
There I found user binding(or something like that under inputs) and I used my controller and rebind all the keys there, and pressed auto save config.
Aaaaaand I could use it in game! But the hotkeys dont work. I cant quit games, cant load save slots or change save slots. So im still puzzled.

@mediamogul Yeah, I have to wonder if something in a kernel update caused things to get funky.

For what it's worth, while adding this week's MAME ROW games to my system I updated to 4.3.15 (07d9f95) and it didn't resolve the issue. I'm hoping either reverting to a really old version of RetroPie and then just not doing any updates, ever, or updating to the new Stretch version will resolve the problem. I haven't made the time yet to disassemble everything and put a different card in to try that route.

@alturis said in AdvMAME 3.6 Input Issues with certain games:

but they are nowhere near as convincing as the retroarch crt shaders.

I would probably still be running advmame for everything if it weren’t for those shaders in RetroArch. This and better analog support is the reason lr-mame2003 became my default, but it was mostly for the shaders. Now, Advmame is primarily for vector on my cab until someone adds hi-res rendering to the vector video in 2003.

Following-up, I think the controllers are configured correctly. They are just using the default hotkey setting. It's just a little wonky-ness with the device when pressing the Select and Start buttons at the same time. It seems to take several tries, but then it does work.

      Thanks for the help!

@obsidianspider ok i found the issue!!!!!

i had copy/pasted the config line within /etc/udev/rules.d/10-retrogame.rules (i create this manually rather than using the adafruit install script)

was checking the config file and noticed that the config contents looked odd

      SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{name}=="retrogame", ENV{ID_INPUT_KEYBOARD}="1"

at first glance it looked fine, but when i typed another double quote next to the exsisting ones, it looked slightly different!! so i re-typed all the quotes, and everything is fine and dandy again!!! :)

@dankcushions said in Design dilemma for retro arcade machine:

plus of course, if you play any console games the 'insert coin' button is by default also the 'select' button, which is used in SNES, PSX, etc.

No plans to play any console games. I was always a C64/Amiga fan, but I emulate these on my PC 'cause it's a more suitable environment than a arcade machine. The one game I wouldn't mind from a console would be Alex the Kid from the Master System (I believe).

      Thanks for your input
