@mituthe only things changed or added have been when I have started the desktop(via cli and startx) but nothing has touched Network etc... And like I have stated the addon Scaper works fine as does any and all network features once in Desktop.

Oddly just notice I nolonger can see an IP address shown but like I said I can access by SSh to the same IP it always uses

and booting to desktop and this shows IP address... something is clearly wrong with retropie side

@TheAutisticGamer sounds like poor wifi signal. the pi’s wifi antenna isn’t the greatest. It’s just enough to to work, but Depending how far your Wi-Fi is , how many walls it has to go through, how much other radio signals nearby causing interference, ect ect, can effect signal strength. Try using a 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz as they are more robust, and can travel further though walls, ect. easier.
Also it’s not dhcp failing. Even if your DHCP server failed, your pi would still keep its IP address as well whatever the other device on your network. It’s just any new devices won’t get a new IP address.

      @retropieuser555

      Yeah.

I see how you're right on this.

Using the default, built in WiFi, it took 45 minutes to transfer a 500 MB folder.

With the WiFi dongle and the same folder, about 6 minutes.

And with a direct connect with an ethernet cable, less than 30 seconds.

I'm not sure how to test for ping though, but I think I'll stick with the dongle. :)

Update your Retropie-Setup script - make sure you're using the latest version - and see if you get the same issue during update.

@filipinoy79 The installer checks if the Google's DNS IPs are routable from the Pi (8.8.8.8 for instance) and if that fails, it considers there is no internet available.
You can check with the command

      ip -4 route get 8.8.8.8

What's the output of the above command in your case ?

@bytethis said in Issues using RetroPie forums with Mozilla Firefox:

@madmodder123 Better ad block software is ublock origin than Adblock Plus. Adblock got bought out and compromised. Conversation here : https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/7s7r4s/unable_to_get_playstation_bios_working/

      ublock origin : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBlock_Origin

Ublock blocks more unwanted ads..popups..etc and 100% effective.

Apologize for going off topic in your thread.

Ah that seems to have been it, ublock origin is working fine for me now. Thanks for letting me know about adblock plus, I remember when they were on top, but I guess times change :/
Interesting though that it seems even though adblock plus was disabled for this website, it seemed to be causing the issue.

A little update about this situation.

I've contacted my ISP and i can't seem to switch out the modem. They sent me some firmware updates, which also didn't help. The solution they offered me was, buying an external WiFi adapter or hookup a router to the modem. Both options are out of the question for me.

But now something I can't put my head around. As said previously most of times i get speed under 1 Mbit/s, but as soon I transfer files over to the pi by SFTP i get much better speeds (atleast 5 Mbit/s stable). This proves there is nothing wrong with the signal or antenna in my case.

@drake999 Just to add, if you don't want to install the full desktop environment the @zerojay retropie-extra repo allows chromium and iceweasel / firefox to be installed with just the matchbox window manger. This then appears in the PORTS section.

@mtib So the command is correct, are you sure you're typing it right in the file ?

I just copied and pasted, it is the same command. Anyhow the radio script is disabling it. When I change the order it works nomarly.

All that I can suggest is to connect another device to the network port of the PC to see if the network connection is shared to that device correctly.
Then at least you know if the Pi or PC is to blame.

personally, when things like this take too long I give up, in this case I would just conenct the Pi directly to the router.

The raspberry pi 2 does NOT have any wireless built in. Now that being said you can use a wireless usb dongle. But that would be a problem for a different forum for sure.

Remember you can always plug in an Ethernet cable to the rasp pi2 and then to your router then boot the pi headless or connect a monitor. (I have just connected my pi directly to my PC also.) You'll have to know how to get the IP it is assigned and then from there you can log in via ssh.

You can always transfer any data to and from the pi "local" via a usb drive using midnight commander (the "filemanger" selection) in the retropie menu. Besides it is MUCH faster that way anyway.
