@gtr63 Maybe you set SNES up first to test before setting up the whole USB mounting thing. It's easy to forget what exactly you did when first setting up, especially if you are not experienced with RetroPie or Linux.

@boneclaw Try another website for your roms (Google "roms" and use the first result). And NEVER open that exe. Most likely some form of malware.

Late to the party apparently... ;)

@retrorednek Just tried the US ROM at that exact spot, using lr-fceumm and it's fine. Dropped down into the cavern no problem.

Just tried the EU ROM, again no issues.

Just tried both ROMs in lr-nestopia, again no issues.

Sorry, problem seems to be on your end. Corrupted ROMs perhaps. Bad dumps.

It's the controllers fault. Open it up and clean the button contact pads.

@ecks, just tried it on a GBA rom. All three emulators and an assortment of 5 or 6 resolutions all give me the same problem with no changes.

Have you transferred any ROMs to your Pi. If you have not transferred any ROMs you won't see the emulators. Check out transferring ROMs in the wiki.

Yeah, @Tundra your description is pretty vague. We get that you are trying to do something with 4.2.10 after you updated your pi (what exactly do you mean by that?) It reads like you had a problem with mystery file that you won't tell us about, but it is related to some emulator that you are unwilling to share, and also, we have no idea how you installed RetroPie or what hardware you are using.

Probably due to the way you are launching ES. Use the autostart feature from retropie-setup configuration to make it start automatically and it will work fine. It has to be launched attached to a terminal.

@Jean I have used the Linux Joystick Mapper program in the past to map the mouse to an analog stick for use in DOS games. I have no experience with using it with the Joy Con controller so I don't know if it will even work. You may wish to check this video first before you proceed.

If you wish to use Linux Joystick Mapper, then I would first suggest reading the official documentation, config.pdf, available in the doc folder of the Linux Joystick Mapper source code download.

Then you can take a look at these threads to see how to implement the joymap binary:

      https://blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/mapping-a-game-controller-in-kodi/

      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2032/dosbox-mapping-mouse-to-ps3-analog-stick

Once you've read these, I would suggest creating a simple mapper file that enters letters and numbers on a command line.

OK, to answer my own question, I found the problem soon after posting here (Murphy law in action).
For some reason I had a file ~/.config/retroarch/config/MAME 2003/MAME 2003.cfg that was overlapping the configs. Removed it and started to work.
I don't know WHAT created this file, but I will let the infromation here in case someone has the same problem.

additionally, lr-snes9x-next is the old name for lr-snes9x2010 (i think). that was changed ages ago so you're using a quite old version of retropie. we can't really support that.

Make sure you are using an official image, or have done a manual install yourself. We will not support 3rd party images.

it seems the problem was created because there were 2 gamelist.xml files.

one in the normal gamelist folders, and one was in the rom folder. no idea how one was created in the rom folder. deleted it and stuff seems out now after rescraping using the emulationstation built in scraper.
