This is the process I followed for that. I don’t see how this could be related but just in case.

No, it's not related. Alas, I don't have any ideas - try using aptitude instead of apt, it's worth a shot.

@squirrelraccoon Good to hear that you've solved your problem.

Nobody here (of consequence) will hold your inexperience against you. It's just that most beginners' answers are already covered in the very comprehensive documentation of this site. In your case, the link that @dankcushions gave you leads to a page with a section called "Boot to EmulationStation“ which for its part links to the FAQ with exactly the instructions you ultimately needed.

A typical approach of many veterans not only in this community is to help others at helping themselves by pointing them in the right direction, but at the same time expecting them to do the (usually manageble) learning by themselves.

Just trying to calm the waves a little. Welcome to this forum, and have fun with RetroPie. 😁

(@dankcushions beat me about his link while I was typing this.)

if your hostname contains win, it would try to build the Windows .dll.

Like 'Darwin' :) But yes, thought about the same when I took a peek there.

For the complicated option (I have not tried this btw :) get one of those backwards compatible PS3s and make it dual bootable with Linux, run PS2 games on the straight ps os and maybe other emu's on the Linux boot?

:) I see youtube videos of people doing some of that but don't really know if the whole thing is possible. Might be fun to look into though if you have too much time?

edit: and maybe you could try to find an broken PS2 to just use the enclosure, take apart the PS3 and fit it into the PS2 shell. Voila! A PS2 made out of a ps3! :)

@Tomaz Seriously, the amount of fat you trimmed from ES was absurd - I did not recall (but now I do :D ) the amount of time ES took to compile!

@UberLumby You can follow the instructions here.

      Thank you
"Create a symbolic link to the RetroArch core you want to use for netplay in the directory where the core info file was stored, for example
      ln -s /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fceumm/fceumm_libretro.so $HOME/.config/retroarch/cores"
This confused me a bit but I think I understand this creates a link to the existing .So I was copying and pasting them into the retroarch cores folder last night lol ops...

Making a retro console yourself is fun! Since you're going to customize this anyway you can do things right the first time instead of reverse engineering the thing. Get exactly what you want instead of trying to find someone selling something close to what you want.

You don't actually want to do that with the cartridge as it will wear down the connectors but also, it's not very easy at all to remove the cartridge once it's in there anyways. It's clearly not meant to encourage you to keep swapping it in and out and mainly just for show.

@mitu I did remove all connected / paired devices several times. I did also reset ES_input file. Nothing worked. Always when I try to pair it, it gives me error message, that device is already registered. The same with udev.

Please add more info about your system, as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

It looks like a package may not be completely unpacked - do you have enough space ? - so you may try with adding the --reinstall flag to apt.

You'll find MAME 2010 in the "optional" packages in RetroPie setup. It isn't installed ex-factory.

@XEntombmentX Make sure you understand what that entails - you'll have to maintain the custom configuration manually. Each time a new system is added (you install a new emulator) you'll have to manually copy the new system entries from the system config to the custom one.
