      Damn, I read the whole thing but didn't check the "important links".
      Thanks a lot @EctoOne, I was completely lost.
      I will check with another font.

      @caver01 Thanks for responding!

      caver01 "It does beg the question, so I will write it before someone else does: why not consider the libretro version of mame4all for those titles that require the bezel, since most of the work has been done for you?"

      My reasons for staying with mame4all are:

      I have a known good working set for mame4all The set works great on a non-OC'ed RaspberryPi 3 I haven't managed to get any of the libretro settings to correspond to my default old iPac2. A major issue for me. I don't like to have to spend hours re-configuring if I can help it. I like majority of the roms on my arcade cab to be listed under one menu. I know that you can use the arcade folder but lets face it re-configuring 800+ roms one at a time to work with the best emulator is a pain when mame4all just works.

      That is how my mind deals with it. I would love to use the Libretro set but I haven't been able to get the key mappings right.

      I was hoping that there would be a default bezel that mame4all could see and know to auto use it but I didd't think that there would be something so simple.

      Thanks again!

      I found one! A friend asked me for a seperare Tate-Card to switch to when using his Tate-Display. Simply use the Arcade-Sytem instead of seperate Mame and FBA-Systems. Enter a game with Mame2003-core, activate rotation and save the system configuration file (not game or core override!). Done. The rotation setting will also apply to all FBA-games.

      @nasp2000 @caver01 I made a hacked version of Metapixel that is vertical, for my little cab (it's an iCade with a Pi in it, I should do a build thread).

      Yes, please do! Also, have you shared your theme? Might be that others could use it or take it as a basis for further development.

      Curious, what overlay(s) are you using?

      I have a set of arcade overlays that I got about 18 months ago. They all have machine bezels inside a fake cabinet with a background of an arcade along each side. I can't remember where they came from, but the screen in some of the images even has scratches and scuffs on it for authenticity.

      I tested this out by building from source, and yes, it is definitely an improvement. Since the font is taller than it is wide, though, the percentages could probably be manually tweaked even further... I may get set up for dev and mess about.

      @ImArchimedes said in Rotating screen in emulationstation ONLY:

      @Psynaptik I know this post is ancient but I was curious about the specifics or how you rotated attach mode. I'd read on a different thread that it should be done in the layout.nut file but using:

      fe.layout.base_rotation = Rotation.Right

      I gave this a shot but the screen hasn't rotated.

      Also, did you end up installing the package with your install that already had emulation station installed or did you use one of the prebuilt images like the one from Floob?

      Thanks a bunch!

      You need to type fe.layout.orient=RotateScreen.Left;

      or right depending on monitor

      Also for games to rotate
      Go to opt/retropie/configs/arcade and open retroarch.cfg. Above the #include line you should add...
      video_allow_rotate = "true"
      video_rotation = "1"

      @BuZz said in Forcing EmulationStation to independently rotate orientation?:

      @KillerQ it would need implementing in the ES code. No way to do it in ES currently.

      That's what I was afraid of. Thanks so much.

      hi! hmm, do you have the latest lr-mame2003 ? that change was done in the last few weeks so won't be in your image, and possibly not in the binaries either. you probably have to install lr-mame2003 from source (takes about 40 minutes).

      https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/updating-retropie#updatinginstalling-individual-packages

      Updating from source did the trick! Bless you, very much appreciated. ^_^

      @morpie overlays are only active when running the libretro (lr-) emulators/games of your choosing.
