You can ask the vendor for support, using the current RetroPie image. Another option is to check whether a current RaspiOS (Bookworm) supports the screen and works better to make the LCD primary, a current release means you can ask for help in the RPI forums. Using the current RaspiOS you can use a manual installation of RetroPie, which is still in beta for this OS release, but should work for most things.

There's no separate bsnes-mercury package in RetroPIe, just regular bsnes.

@gare You can get RetroArch to run in verbose mode by choosing to launch with verbose logging. Seems like an issue with the audio - perhaps PulseAudio/Pipewire gets stuck ? Does it happen also with standalone emulators (i.e. Mupen64plus or PPSSPP) ?

@TPR Nice to hear it, 1080p should be fine for most TVs today, but there are still those with max. at 1280x720 (HD Ready) and other display types (e.g. computer monitors) may be a totally different story (That's why it would be nice if the PI5 could also switch cmdlines by edid :/ )

If you have Enter as hotkey_enable for the keyboard, then pressing Enter + F1 should open the menu with the keyboard.

@barbudreadmon Solved! Awesome thank you. Disabled antialiasing and set vector to lowest available 640x480. Close to perfect audio, you can just hear the choppyness coming back when there's lots/peak of activity on screen.

Can you explain in more detail what you're doing and what's not working according to your expectation ? It's not quite clear how a SD card can 'grow' from 128Gb to 300Gb. Does this have anything to do with RetroPie or is just a Raspberry Pi Imager related question ?

@retropieuser555 this never worked for me, i could set my data in GUI, but the "#" in the script-file kept beeing there, so i had to remove them manually.
Maybe i am doing something wrong, but activating RA only in GUI never worked for me :/

I managed to launch it without installing a full DE, here is what I did in case anyone is interested (although installing a DE is probably the simplest option):

Install xorg and xinit:

sudo apt install -y xorg xinit

In /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config set allowed_users=anybody

Add the current user (or replace with user that launches the command) to these groups:

sudo usermod -aG input,tty,video $USER

Grant access to the second tty to current user (this need to be repeated after a reset):

sudo chown $USER /dev/tty2

Now replace the command to launch the emulator in /opt/retropie/configs/ps2/emulators.cfg:

pcsx2-nogui = "xinit /opt/pcsx2-unstable/pcsx2-qt -fullscreen -nogui %ROM% -- :0"

It's important to use the full path /opt/pcsx2-unstable/pcsx2-qt and not just pcsx2-qt because the later is actually a shell script that calls the former and xinit doesn't like that:

cat $(which pcsx2-qt) #!/usr/bin/bash /opt/pcsx2-unstable/pcsx2-qt "$@"

And that's it. Launching a game will show the PCSX2 gui where we can choose the different folders for roms and BIOS. This step require a keyboard and ideally a mouse.

i personally cant help with box86 or wine, i have not used it at all other then booting it up once long ago. but hopefully this can help in someway

I was reading the MobyGames section on https://gemba.github.io/skyscraper/SCRAPINGMODULES/ and it sounded like it could be something cool, but maybe i'm trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. So far screenscraper, openretro, etc are covering things really well. I might look into it more and report back if there is anything worthwhile there. Cheers!

@crinale0 Hi, this looks great! I have an old 20" Panasonic CRT from around 2000 I was thinking of using. What did you use to convert the Pi to a good CRT signal? Are you running RGB, Coax, Composite or RCA?

I haven't tried any of this, but I'm thinking this will be a great winter project.

As I said, you need to run in a desktop environment, from which you can start a screen configuration utility and set-up the multi-monitor configuration (mirroring, extension, etc.).
