@sleve_mcdichael said in stop ScummVM from generating .svm files?:

If you run the command manually, does your output look like mine?

nope, there's an additional line: Using configuration file: /opt/...

using tail -n +4 solves that then. Sorry for bothering you with this, seems like something I could've figured out...

You can try scraping them. That's what the <platform> tag is for in es_systems.cfg, where you configured the custom system.

looks like I'd removed that line (in my attempts to isolate from the main scummvm), but I'm adding it back in now.
(even though not all games there are scummvm...)

i've used skyscraper before, thanks for the tips!

Was there a reason you want to use the scummvm.ini contents, specifically?

oh, no, it just looked like there's more info in there, but not much of it is useful for scraping anyway

thanks for everything, i think i can handle it from here :)

    @Finntendo

    You should read the Docs.
Here you can find many answers to your questions.

I will try to answer your question.

RetroPie is a collection of bash scripts running on top of a lite linux OS.
Lite means it has no Desktop (windows) environment it only has the terminal.
You can even install RetroPie separately on your own compatible debian based linux OS, even if it has a Desktop environment, even if it's not a Raspberry Pi.

Just see a binary as an EXE files from windows, it is also a binary, you download it and it runs.
But to create EXE files you need to compile it first from source so the computer can understand it.
Compiling is converting the programming language into understandable code for the CPU this can take a long time depending on what computer you use.

The RetroPie guys made it easier by supporting binary installs for the Raspberry Pi and perhaps for some other arm boards.
They compiled it for you and many people can use them.

Source installs can be more up to date if the source code is maintained regularly and the binary files are behind but it takes much more time to install.
Though the binaries from RetroPie are updated quite regularly so if it's possible to update from binary than that is in most cases a better choice as it is much faster.

You say you have updated everything now from source.
This means that all installs are very up to date.
So when everything works I would wait some time to update from binary.
Because it could mean that you downgrade the emulators.

The OS underlying files are updated in a quite normal way.
This does not depend on the source / binary installs.
So you won't downgrade your OS.

Yes, game have vibration, i just tested Crazy Taxi (USA) and it's working. Redream menu doesn't look to have a setting for vibration. Do you have the same issue with lr-flycast ? What controller do you have ? If your gamepad have the ability to change between d-input and x-input then, try with x-input.

Try to reinstall the emulator and find the game from a different source.

Can you add more details about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ?

Does this happen to all games or just a few games ? Which version did you have installed before the update (or when was the previous time you updaed) ?

    @StrangeJaguar said in 2 Questions:

is there a way to make a cartridge system with sd card where when I put in an sd card with a from on it, it would show up in the retropie UI but when I remove the sd card the game goes away.

Partially. EmulationStation needs to restart in order to add/remove files from disk, so it won't work to add/remove the card at runtime.

is it possible to make custom menus like the start menu that has the scraper and UI settings.

    No.

You can modify the input configuration (in $HOME/.emulationstation/es_input.cfg) file and swap the A and B button inputs. As long as you re-configure your input, it won't be reset by EmulationStation.

    Sweet!!

@sleve_mcdichael Thanks for that info. Worked a beautiful treat!

I also found where I likely messed up. Some of the roms I have were copied over from another system that uses the same file structure. I ended up finding some gamelist files where I didn't expect them to be and those were the files that had the "sortname" section. Just removed those files all together and re-scraped and generated new gamelists for all the systems. Everything is sorting perfect now.

    Thanks for the help!

Right now, the documentation here https://retropie.org.uk/docs/8Bitdo-Controller/ gives advice which seems kind of wrong.
First of all, you shouldn't be using Bluetooth at all. It has too much input lag for gaming. Maybe if all you want to play is visual novels or watch movies with Kodi then Bluetooth is fine but for anything video game related that has actual game in it which isn't just a video, you shouldn't be using Bluetooth at all AFAIK. Too much input lag. Use a wire.
Second, it suggests that you can go in and edit the RetroArch controller configuration files. Well, maybe. Until the next time you plug a controller in and then RetroPie's EmulationStation will overwrite those files with whatever it thinks your controller mapping should be, completely undoing all your hard work.
There's got to be a better way to handle this whole aspect of RetroPie from a design perspective.

@Darkshadow846 said in When will retropi upgrade???:

So when will there be A upgrade?

We don't have a definitive date for the update that will bring Pi 5 support. Is there something in particular why you're waiting for the Pi 5 instead of getting a Pi4 ?

I think everybody's hoping the Pi 5 will emulate the GameCube with Dolphin. Don't know if that's really going to happen or not.

PS2 emulation is probably still not going to happen on anything that's ARM-based because of pcsx2 still having too much x86 crap in it.

@raspretro314 this feature is meant for retroarch's online updater, which is not what is used when updating cores on retropie.

rpi-update creates a backup, but you'll need a Linux system to read and restore it - see https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-update/issues/273.

    Check the docs for runcommand_onstart.sh, runcommand_onlaunch.sh, runcommand_onend.sh

These are for pre/post game activities and the docs tell you which cli options are passed to them.
