    If you can read them via the terminal, then it's ok.
    What happens if you restart Emulationstation, after booting ? Will the games show up ?

    @sscalley Thank you! This was exactly my issue as well, although I was using a pre-made image from somewhere else that had the same permissions issues.

    For me, since my gamelist.xml files were in the roms directory, I needed to do the following:

    cd ~\retropie\roms sudo ./ -name 'gamelist.xml' -exec chown pi:pi {} \;

    Worked great!

    I have a similar behavior with the most recent version of Retropie running on my pi 3 B+. My Logitech F710 controller runs very well inside the Emulationstation, however if I start a games - regardless with kind of emulation - the controller stops to work.

    It'll be a third USB device. It uses its own interface board, and wont work with the same boards you're going to be using with your joystick/buttons.

    You'll have to see if the spinner you buy comes with one, or what board is recommended with that spinner.

    Tried all this. Jetsons: Ways With Words still doesn't run with this ecs version of jsintv. Anyone get that to work?
    Also, I don't think "select video mode for jsintvecs + rom ()" is the option that brings up "jsintvecs". That just brings up a bunch of screen res choices.

    @jojin Look in the Docs, there's sections for each emulator, look over the Getting starting guide, the Emulationstation pages, then later on you can take a look over the RetroArch and Advanced configuration options. Feel free to ask in the forums also, there's no wrong question (well, almost).

    @mitu Oh that makes sense then. Thanks a lot for clearing that up.

    And you're probably right that I should wait for the Pi4 to be officially supported before I begin again :)

    No-intro romsets is the best since those are unmodified and taken from a clean dump. They do not have anything else added to them that is not default in the original game.

    As @Clyde says You can use Romcenter or you can use Clrmamepro with the .dat files from no-intro website and then filter them out for 1G1R also known as 1 Game 1 Rom. This process is called (Parent-child).

    This will make sure that you don't get clones and only keep one game from one specific region. Ex. Sonic the Hedgehog (USA) instead of getting both Sonic the Hedgehog (USA) and Sonic the Hedgehog (JAP) in your Mega Drive collection.

    There are a couple of tutorials out there on the internet that you can use.

    @herb_fargus
    Thanks for the reply, I totally agree with you which is why this is somewhat in a gray area. As I said, I have seen the drama, it is hard to understand without really knowing if it is ok or not.

    That site does offer versions not available to the public for the two higher tiers which I think is what is causing the issue. They claim to watermark the images so as to be able to identify them if leaked to the general public which makes no sense if it was available for free to all anyway.
    Anyway, I don't and will not pay anything for Retropie. Using the base image is easy, and I have found that the biggest problem is people do not want to invest a little time to learn and build on a base image, yet they want support from others when the image does not work correctly.
    It is sad that people try to act like they are not selling retropie when in reality, retropie is the only item they are offering and asking for Patreon support, and as far as I know it comes with roms, but I cannot say as I do not have the image. I guess it is just the nature of the beast...

    changing the hot keys for exit to Select+x and for reset to Select+UpAxis by changing the configure files

    This would indeed be useful to know. I can only find the settings to remap the regular controls, not the retroarch hotkeys.

    Ok I just did one more test and I downloaded the Atari800 core from the retropie setup and it does have perfect sound quality (audio coming from my left speaker only, though), and it uses the same BIOs files than the lr-atari800 core. Is this normal? I want to use the lr-atari800 because of the keyboard being mapped to the joypad, or maybe if it is a way to get into the Retroarch menu in Atari800, and the set up my gamepad being Atari Joystick?

    Thanks in advance!

    @Lurker thank you for this detail, also super helpful for me. I am considering doing the same thing but using this switch (Pilot Automotive PL-SW26 Performance Toggle Switch with Red Safety Cover https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GTMUUI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6uZQDbMXHJDGD). I don’t have any electrical experience - can I ask you what the difference would be here given this only has 2 connectors vs the 3 in the other switch?

    Finally I removed everything and reinstalled retroarch and I will take a pack made for retropie, much simpler
