Old thread, but this is what i did.
Once the usb is setup and all files have copied move the scraper files to the retropie-mount folder on the USB.

mv ~/.emulationstation/downloaded_images /media/usb/retropie-mount/ mv ~/.emulationstation/gamelists /media/usb/retropie-mount/

Since retropie automounts the items in the retropie-mount dir into the ~/RetroPie/ dir we can create symlinks to point the that ~/RetroPie/ and no need to change the sources in the files.

ln -s ~/RetroPie/downloaded_images/ ~/.emulationstation/downloaded_images ln -s ~/RetroPie/gamelists/ ~/.emulationstation/gamelists

Following up - I did a reinstall of the Xpad driver (removed and then installed) and it fixed my triggers, too.

Yes, only the 1st player has access to Hotkeys.

Disable the Wifi connection or get a BT USB adapter - what RPI Model are you using ?

Its a Pi3 B+, I'll try and disable WiFi and see what happens.

Most likely yes. The procedure you performed is not guaranteed to recover another system.

If so is the main partition of retropie a regular EXT3? So I may browse and copy all of my files?

It's an Ext4 partition - should be accessible also as Ext3, but I advise using a Linux installation to try and mount it.

@mitu I actually figured it out late last night. As I was trying every game file I thought that there had to be something wrong with how the images were being called up. I looked again at both my es_systems.cfg & emulators.cfg and realized that I had it pointing to pcengine not pcenginecd. I must have looked at those ten times without realizing my mistake.

I knew I was doing something stupid. I guess I really should have stepped away from it for a bit.

You can reorient the controls 45 degrees in MAME 2003 and 2003-Plus by enabling the "4-way Joystick" core option. When that is enabled it also automatically rotates the 45 degrees games. You'll need to build from source to get this core option as it has only been in place a few weeks.

Solved. It was problem with my rom. I've downloaded the new one form the internet and it works fine.

I must admit that I have never used that package. And after scouring the github page there doesn't seem to be much of help there, but I did notice that there were comments mentioning the problem you are having with no responses.

What sticks out to me is the trying to install to /root/Retropie instead of /home/pi/Retropie. Did that happen in your 4.3 build?

I don't see what difference it should make but have you tried installing via the command line instead of SSH? Updating via managing experimental packages after installing?

The whole system (the normal Dosbox package that is) freezes when trying to open the key mapper. Hence a remote shutdown isn't possible. Somewhere I read that this is a known bug.
