@Folly So, apt install mame got me standalone compiles for 32 bit of course. Configuring it in retroarch was pretty easy and it works perfectly. It does use a core at 100%, but it does keep up.

That is an update to date version of AppleWin with a libretro build on linux! That's more efficient than mame and gives me a libretro module. So, all is well as I compiled that and added to retroarch.

As I said, I am not moving to a 64 bit OS, it's not relevant as to why as that was not my question.

No, the list of extensions accepted is a system parameter and not a global list. When the new PPSSPP version will be added in RetroPie, the extension list for ES's psp system will be updated accordingly.

Yes, as long as the 2 Pi have a network connection, Netplay doesn't care about the medium used (WiFi/Ethernet/Bluetooth/etc.).

The RetroArch auto-configuration profile is used by joy2key to map gamepad buttons/inputs to keyboard keys and to control the dialog/text menus. I assume this is what you mean by controlling raspi-config , since raspi-config has no gamepad support by itself.

@ilpappa unfortunately I'm not the one to give advice about electronics - I don't have enough knowledge/experience.

If you're using a RetroArch based emulator core (e.g. FBneo doesn't have an input menu similar to MAME), then you may be able to do that using the 'Mapped Port' option in the core input, see https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/pull/12534.
I haven't used it, so I don't know if it's possible to save a game input remap after setting up this options (so it will configuration will be automatically applied when the game starts).

@mituthe only things changed or added have been when I have started the desktop(via cli and startx) but nothing has touched Network etc... And like I have stated the addon Scaper works fine as does any and all network features once in Desktop.

Oddly just notice I nolonger can see an IP address shown but like I said I can access by SSh to the same IP it always uses

and booting to desktop and this shows IP address... something is clearly wrong with retropie side

Thank you guys! After a few more hours of tinkering, I was able to resolve my user error issues. Got it all set up and playing through my childhood again.
