I was using 9zip to unzip the image and it wasn't unzipping the entire image file for some reason. Decided to, as an experiment, use winrar instead and I noticed the image file was a different size - I'd not even thought to check this.

I tried to reconfigure from within retropie, and for some reason the changes weren't holding correctly. I suspect it was probably permissions related, though I'm not sure how the permissions on the .cfg could have gotten messed up.

@clyde Thank you! That worked perfectly. I added "sudo python /home/pi/caseled/galaxy.py &" in before emulationstation and it boots up like a charm pre loaded with the settings I edited the script for the LED's.

If the script doesn't need administrative rights, you can omit the sudo before the command. It adds a tiny yet easily done bit of security to your system.

@red2blue If the problem is physical, then re-formatting will not bring in additional performance. You're free to save the data from the disk, format as Ext4 and re-try.

@rascas the issue was one of my controllers that was plugged into the pi.. no idea why but once i unplugged that one from the pi it worked.

@jorgenjl Get a Linux live distro (Ubuntu/Fedora/etc.), write it on an USb stick/CD and boot it up on your PC. You'll be able to read the SD card's contents to copy over your configs/roms, then write the latest RetroPie image on your SD card and transfer over your data.

Thanks guys - that sorted it. No idea what config files I've been finding and deleting until now, but that first location had the default.cfg and tons of seperate game ones too. Wiped them all, rebooted and mame seems to be fine now.

I've been on a journey to get retropie rootfs booting from an NFS drive connected to (and served by) another Pi. Not quite there, yet - but oh so close.

Once I have it all running properly (it is, now, but not straight from a fresh boot) I'll provide proper documentation.

@delladar The 4 raspberry icons and the multicolor screen is normal, there's no error there. But you're using a charger which probably is not suited for the RPI, which needs 5V and 2.5A power supply to work. Use a proper power supply and re-try.

Scraped again and changed it to use the rom directory for images and gamelist. Now they most of the images and Metadata are there. Just an update for anybody else who has this issue.

@cyclair I have never created a theme, but it seems to me that this page describes how to setup sections for metadata. Have you tried removing the sections for both the labels and the data (ie: md_lbl_rating, md_rating sections)? I think you have to make backups and try this. It will be trial and error, especially to get your positions correct since you also said you wanted to raise the text. There are no simple answers here. You will need to get in there and make adjustments.

Also, I tried clicking your pastebin link and it looks like the XML is in a different language than your long post. Did you know you can go back and EDIT your long post? Folks might be more inclined to respond if you clean up that first post a bit.
