@mitu Yes, when I run "configure for two snes controllers", the players are reversed. So, going to configedit's "choose joypad order", it will be (1 0 2 3). The correct order is (0 1 2 3). It's just a minor annoyance, but the first time I did this a few years ago, I went as far as re-soldering my set up thinking I made a mistake. I do follow the schematic that's pictured in retropie-setup.

It has nothing to do with the modules, there's something related to the kernel files copied by rpi-update which breaks the compilation - see https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/1364.

      Take a look at

demonstrating how to map 2 4way joysticks to tank controls - including the Atari Battle zone. IMHO as long as you simulate 2 joysticks, you'll be able to map them in MAME to the tank controls.

It wouldn't work for a couple of reasons. Primarily, RetroArch will only use a mouse or pointer device to emulate a light gun. Popular solutions to this are AimTrak USB guns, as well as a Dolphinbar/Wiimote/Gun casing combo. Another big hangup was input lag, as the screen flash has to occur at the exact moment the trigger is pressed. However, thanks to recent developments that were previously thought to be somewhat impossible, this would no longer be an issue when using capable hardware. Still, support would nonetheless have to be added for RetroArch to interface with actual light guns.

Im putting the gpio issue on hold for the moment as for some reason my adapter magically started working correctly. I plan to revisit it someday as it would reduce costs if I built one of these for someone else but for now its on hold. However my arduino came today and should make for some fun here soon.

Sussed it! Updated everything using the command lines- reinstalled. then needed to add "SUDO" to the "modprobe --first-time gamecon_gpio_rpi map 4,4"

All working! Thanks for the help!

      So anybody?

Is it even worth a try, to add SD in Pi3, run the script and (???) remove reboot from it... would that download the script and then install in at the next boot?

@Darksavior OK. Looks like they have now packaged 4.9.x - I hadn't realised sorry. I can only recommend you don't update the kernel for now then, as the gamecon driver is not yet compatible with 4.9 and I don't have time right now to look into it. (3rd party package so will need an upstream fix).

So i've finally got further with this issue. I've removed retropie from my SD card and reinstalled it. Added the correct driver and set every GPIO pin in de conf file to 2 so my config now looks like this: gamecon_gpio_rpi map=0,0,2,2,2,2
Interesting enough now all of my controllers seem to work without the 5v mod or extra wires whatsoever. I've attached the NES pad to the PAD 4 pin. The only thing not working right now is in-game. The NES controller works in the menus of retropie and emulation station but not in an actual NES game. Going to figure that out next!

@faugnom1 I used its default config for two snes controllers so I've never had to mess with it. Maybe it won't get created until you set it up once.

I was actually able to get this figured out by establishing an internet connection over USB to my mac. The trick was most things I was reading on how to do that was using pi@raspberry.local when I needed to use pi@retropie.local (it wouldn't use SSH over the ip address for whatever reason). I was then able to install gamecon as it could fetch the latest packages and install those. Hopefully this helps someone else with a similar situation.

Maybe it get some improvements in the future, but you can change it currently.
