Well i got round to testing that as it was sat on my pi anyway i can confirm contra 4 works fine i have a us dump if its relavent and if i may suggest you could try checking your controller mappings see if shoot and hook isnt mapped to the same button by mistake you never know may have overlooked it but it is working fine infact ive just been playing it with my ps3 controller on my pi with enhanced resolution enabled(actually gives 2d games a nice crisp appearance instead of the default blurred one)

If I do sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-get upgrade it also locks up doing the upgrade. But I was able to both of these in Raspbian and Raspbian lite.

Yes, this is the recommended way to do it.

For the 2nd part, related to Mame and Tapper, I think it is not supported in 'vanilla' Mame2003 (see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/1712/no-tapper-how-will-i-live-controls-not-working/) so you could try to use either advmame or install lr-mame2003-plus (https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/17766/mame2003-plus-250-new-games-new-input-system-new-features-new-bugs) and see if you get better results.

I think i have similar problem. i can't change type of the machine and TV standard.
I always endup with Atari 800, 48k, NTSC.
If screen mode of my Pi Zero is 50Hz i have difficulity with the keyboard, like it running on max speed. Only game i have and can run with this setup is Jet Set Willy. Music is obviously at 60Hz sync and scroller have drops due to 50Hz screen and 60Hz emulation interference.

Changes made in emulators menu (F1) are saved properly. But the emulator never respect them. Or some of them. Because paths to ROM files and BIOS files are used so as the color settings.

Am i missing somehting obvious? It's seems to be caused by something in emul. execution parameters witch overrides the cfg values. I don't know. And i want my Draconus, believe me.

What i have already done:
Downloaded and installed the retropie twice.
Updated system and retropie
Changed, rewrited, downloaded from other people and saved from emulator. Config file Atari800.cfg.
Changed the rasberry screen mode to 50Hz and back.
Changed ROM specific (a button during game launch) config to 50Hz, added MACHINE_TYPE=Atari XL/XE, DEFAULT_TV_MODE=PAL
and... nothing.

@collcroc123 That's normal. Once you start the system, the 2nd partition will be expanded to fill up the free space (that shows up as Unallocated). The 1st partition is the boot partition, only holding the necessary files to start the system and then the actual OS and its files will be on the 2nd partition.

@Magia Please use the correct Raspberry Pi - image it's the Rapsberry 0/1 Image - you seem to have a Raspberry 1 B+

Then use etcher or any other software to burn it to SD, but I think there is something wrong with your SD card. Incompatible or a chinese plagiate? Where did you get this card - maybe ebay?

Did you do any overclockings?

@spudsmctoole Answering Your Own Question From Six Months Ago Department: it turns out that my ATARI800.CFG file stipulated a default game cartridge, and this was overriding the presence of the XEX file. Remove that line and all is well :)

@lurker Thnx. I checked out the USB encoder product and seems like this is the correct product for easily adding autofire. Maybe it would be possible to do it with the controlblock as well but requires more skills than I have. I like the power switch feature and ability to connect two cotrollers to the controlblock but the dufficulty of adding cooling solutions with how it stacks on top of the pi is annoying.

@mitu wifi should be fine as its the same username and password. The ip address will be different. The bluetooth devices if any would need to be redone.

@zacho95 Also another thing you can try is powering off the console, pulling the power cord/power supply, press the power button on the Xbone a couple of times to drain it, and then reboot and retry.
I used to get paid to do this shit for Microsoft :)

When you connect a controller to an XBONE via wired or wireless, it saves the ID of the console in the controller's memory, so if it is not connecting to it after all of these steps, it is probably the wireless functionality on the controller that is dead (in all my years of working we have not had the wireless adapter on the console side break). I have seen a lot of those original controllers break over the years :)

Also if you have a friend with an XBONE, try to pair it to that console

What you had doesn't look like a RetroPie image - there is no ROM downloading included in any of the RetroPie software. You probably used a 3rd party image, which is not supported here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
