Sorry for bumping my old thread but i still have the same problem. Music stutters when moving around in Emulationstation. If i hold my joystick to left or right in the main menu so it keeps scrolling through my systems then it stutters more and more until the music stops completely and need a reboot for the sound to come back.

I can't remember 100% but i believe that MPG123 is what is used for playing the background music.

@flower4000 I explained in the previous reply what it means: if your path element contains the folder (i.e. /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/genesis/game.md), then remove the folder part of the path and leave only the file name (./game.md).

      Thank you @meleu and @cyperghost

I may end up ordering another Nespi+ case to attempt the button modification. If I do, I'll certainly come back and provide an update!

@dankcushions These "mini" themes work perfect! I never thought of using 4:3 themes or were aware of them; it fixes the distortion problem and now everything's proportional, thank you :)

@pierouge in which Mode did you connect your 8biDo? Switch, Android, Mac or Win?
I just learned that this is an important point and after a change (Android. Start+B) my Pads work perfect.

I'm not at the pi at the moment (left the house after making this post) but I can definitely confirm that it erases what I added without appending another.

The game/console I have been using as an example is Game Boy. With the entry for Super Mario Land, the scraped (using default ES scraper) data does not generate a <players> tag in the metadata entry within the gamelist.xml. When I launched the game and played it after adding one, the data saved added a last played date and times played entry, and erased/overwrote the <players>1</players> tag that I added (and saved) prior to launching and playing.

I confirmed by comparing to other titles that my line of xml was formatted exactly as others were that scraped with a <players> tag, but notably those that obtained that data from thegamesdb.net via the built in scraper and remained undisturbed are always greater than 1, which makes me suspect that ES reads a not present/defined value of players as 1? Not sure why it would erase or overwrite it though.

@mitu thanks, but i think i'll stick with gamesdb. The systems supported by the scraper provided with emulationstaion in retropieare listed in its GitHub page.

An alternative may be Skraper; it's avaiable for Windows and linux, but it's still an alpha and for the latter it is required WINE.

@Orionsangel Nothing has changed between the answers/solutions given above - you have the same options as before. You can choose to start in the Last Played collection, so you can go back to your last played game if you wish.
I'm not sure whether you're using Retropie - and its fork of EmulationStation - or some other distribution that includes EmulationStation (or perhaps ES-DE). Other forks may have other options, but as far as RetroPie's fork is concerned, nothis is changed from the above.

      Please don't bump old topics.

I was scrolling through the commits of the recalbox emulation station build and I'm curious if the following commits can be merged (maybe just partially) into the retropie version. From what I've seen and understood, those should add support for themeable menus and add an extra menu to directly switch theme settings in the GUI.

Main commit helpBox fix transition tag (not quite nessessary but would be nice to have)

@jpoul said in How can I hide subfolders in EmulationStation?:

Shouldn't the feature "Parse Gamelists only" show exactly what is on the gamelists.xml file - as in the list of game, no matter where they are and disregard everything else?

No, that's not how it works. It just means that it will not scan for new ROMs in the configured path to add them to the game list.

If I do change the rom path, shouldn't I have to put the gamelist.xml in that path as well?

Yes, either that or put it in the default place (/home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelists/nes).

@horaceandspider I've got an arcade cabinet using 4 Sanwa-style arcade joysticks that are recognised as Dragonrise. The only way I've been able to address this problem of differentiating between joysticks is to use meleu's joystick configurator together with Attract Mode (which allows very easy programming of joystick controls "outside" the game environment) and xboxdrv (for in game control).

Basically, xboxdrv "ties" each joystick button/movement to keyboard inputs which have been set in Retroarch and also set in each non-Retroarch emulator (the key being that almost every emulator allows keyboard input). I then invoke xboxdrv via runcommand-onstart to start up the specific xboxdrv joystick configuration for that particular emulator. xboxdrv can even be used on a per-game basis, so it is very flexible.

This works very well and basically bypasses the problem of differentiating between each joystick as the effect is that you are "using the keyboard" when moving the joystick or pressing a joystick button, whichever joystick it might be.

However, I suspect it might prove to be quite a bit of work for you to set this up on an established system that is already devoted to emulationstation. You could achieve the same using emulationstation, leaving Attract Mode to one side, but I shifted over to Attract Mode about 2 years ago. Mediamogul is the guru on xboxdrv.
