@douga There's a very famous solution that's been around for a long time called Keyrah, you can check it out here http://www.vesalia.de/e_keyrahv2.htm . I know the C64 runs quite well on VICE but because it's such a famous machine there are better solutions around in FPGA if your life depends on a good modern version of the C64 in your original case. No real need to software emulate this one.

I overlooked a clue in https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/PC:

"In some games your joystick/controller may be permanently fixed in one corner. For these games, edit dosbox-SVN.conf, find the [Joystick] section and set timed to false as below:

timed=false"

Now it works

European ROMs are very weird with emulators. It's best you use the American version.

@BuZz that make sense, I forgot that RetroPie is not exclusive for Raspbian.

@Nelbrenn Is you're router set up to give out dhcp addresses? You can check if the Pi has an ip address through the Retropie menu. It shouldn't start 169 as this is the default address it'll use if it can't get a dhcp.

Sorry, I guess I just assumed it was, but yes it's cased with a fan using a 5V/2.5A power supply. I haven't checked that, I haven't used Linux in years so pretty much back to beginner but I can take a look later on today when I get home. Not sure about the firmware, I've tried so many things it's a possibility but I honestly can't remember.

The devices report more than just a VID and PID number then, correct? Because you'll see different text show up for different controllers (like Mayflash, or RetroUSB, iBuffalo, etc), and the config files get named differently as well.

And I will run that command when I get home, thanks. I only have I think 2 different quasi-generic brands of SNES controllers at home now (maybe a third this weekend if it comes in) - gave the others away. I'll see what my Hyperkin Genesis says too as that one is also generic for some reason (think I have a Tomee? NES one as well). My iBuffalo we know is fine and unique.

@martinnoren I just had boot problems with my sd card. It is a 8gb, it would boot NOOBS and raspian but not retropie. I found a 32gb sd and now the retropie image boots just fine. This was on a rpi 1b it's an older model. I know you said your SD was a 16gb but I thought this information might help.
