@nes as with the roms you will need the right CHD-Version for this rom-set.
btw - Killer Instinct will not run good even with a overclocked Pi4, so you might be dissapointed.

Thanks for reply. From retropie website. I have been tinkering alot I've messed it up myself somehow following various guides for controller settings in mame. I might have to just start again with new image.

@shredman I have just had the same problem using a PS3 controller and fixed it by going into the retroarch config > controls, the analog stick buttons were configured to open the MAME menu and service mode. Turn them off and don't forget to save the Remap file (not Core overrides as mentioned in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/15330/enabling-xbox360-analog-controls-in-lr-mame2003/3 )

@johnsorger6 How did you create the 7z archive ?
Can you run with verbose logging enabled and post the contents of the log file /dev/shm/runcommand.log on pastebin.com so we can take a look at what errors appear ?

OK so after literally half an hour of extra mucking round with this, I discovered i was being stupid!

I had been looking for a way to automatically map the joystick to the face buttons, (which doesn't appear to exist) but there is a way to manually map the controls,

If anybody is trying to do this themselves its actually relatively simple,

I already have my controls set up to map the left stick to the DPad

I have my face buttons mapped the same as the face buttons on an Xbox 360 controller

I then used the controls section of the retroarch menu to mapp

Auto +2 - Button 1
Auto -2 - Button 4
Auto +3 - Button 3
Auto -3 - Button 2

It only seemed to work properly when i used the AUTO ones, I have now saved this as a core remap file so all games that use Mame2010 will map the left stick to the Dpad and the Right stick to the face buttons.

the only other thing i had to do was to set up the controls within mame itself (no idea why but it just didn't seem to auto map the controls but that is really quite easy anyway

problem is mame2010 isint done properly. It only maps the retropad to mame default keys. There is nothing you can do with it as is. I think a a few of these lr-cores are half done and abandoned. I have put pull requests in to fix the input up but no dice so far. Until its fixed use another lr-mame like 2003/2003+ series or advanced mame.

only one can be used but if you want to use the 2010 you will need one of them dont waste your time trying to get it working

after your list is made you can enable "parse gamelist only" (or something like that) then the folders will not show in the list.

Remember if you add anything though you will need to turn it off so ES can see and add it..then when you are dine you can re-enable it.

Thats weird, I did try and delete /home/pi/cfg/default.cfg
it even says it's autogenerated.
Regardless deleting it now it works, thanks a lot :-)

@keithmason if memory serves, if you exit it and then restart it will work fine. it absolutely does work in lr-mame2003 - i coded the dual sticks option :)
