      @jamrom2 Do you mean for Video Pinball? If so, what are your config-file numbers?

      @mahoneyt944 Sorry, my explanation was not completely correct: It's the firmware that is updated, as far as I can see the PCB itself looks identical. But you can find out which firmware runs on your PCB, simply by pressing both mouse buttons simultaneously and keeping them pressed for 10 seconds. If this switches the mouse axis from horizontal to vertical, your PCB is running the latest firmware. Otherwise it still runs the old firmware.

      Apparently there is no simple way to update the firmware yourself, they simply sent me a new PCB.

      @barbudreadmon @Darksavior
      So, tested it on all my house hold TVs.

      All 4 are Vizio.
      My entertainment center TV has issues with the sound cutting out constantly.
      The others (Roommate bedroom, my bedroom, and the living room) do not have the same issue.
      (I even changed cords, and plugged the system directly into the TV instead of the splitter box)

      So I wonder if the TV itself is defective, or is it just incompatible, or what...

      I also tested all the ports on my entertainment center TV, same sound issue with each HDMI port.

      When I bought the TV in Sep '18, in Oct '18 they had to do a recall on the main board, sending a person out to replace it. Then as of last year, the sound was cutting out again on other channels but eventually stopped, but Vizio sent me a replacement board just incase.. something I didn't/don't know how to install... so it's probably just either the first replacement died as well, or wasn't installed correctly, or the TV is just crap.

      Another option:

      I use a bezel that I made. Get asteroid.png and asteroid.cfg from here if you're interested. https://github.com/busywait/retroboxes/tree/main/overlay/Asteroids

      I've tried lr-mame2003-plus and lr-fbneo. They need different ROMs, get the correct one from a relevant romset.

      lr-mame2003-plus has more control over vector lines, but the screen is slightly squashed in height (black unused space at the top and bottom). The screen shot below shows that problem.
      asteroids game with a bezel running in RetroArch

      You can scale the picture to be a little taller, but then motion doesn't look as smooth. So, I use lr-fbneo.

      With either core I used with the "normal" resolution, and integer scaled 2x to fit my bezel in the retroarch video options.

      I don't use a shader. I do run with video_threaded = "false" to reduce latency by a frame. (I can't remember if I tested if that actually made any difference! I assume that it's taken away 16mS of lag).

      @dankcushions
      Yeah, I checked the sites myself and had no issue. I don't see how it could be the connection on the Pi, though, since the wifi works for anything I do via the GUI - both the main Retropie interface and the setup interfaces. Scraping, updating, etc, all works until I go into the terminal. I'll probably have to seek help elsewhere as I suspect that's still outside of your ability to assist.

      Thanks for the help, though. I at least now know some stuff to look at should other problems arise in the future.

      I've updated the link above with guides for both 32bit and 64bit MAME cross compiles. Both verified and working on my setup, and confirmed by at least one other person. For me it takes an ~8 hour compile on my RPi4 overclocked to 2.0GHz down to a ~1 hour compile on my Core i5 machine.

      I've added some links to scripts as well to hopefully make it a bit easier for people to get going. Still not automated end-to-end, but enough for someone familiar with package installation under Debian/Ubuntu to build a working cross compile environment.

      I'm fairly confident this could be modified for anything running on RPi that uses gcc or g++ to compile, as long as the compile time headers and link time libraries were known, or could be discovered.

      For example, if you want to find the dependencies for, say, ScummVM, install the "apt-rdepends" package on your RPi, and run:

      apt-rdepends scummvm | grep -v ^' ' | sort | uniq | tr '\n' ' '

      They're your runtime dependencies. To find build dependencies, ensure there's a matching "deb-src" repo for every "deb" repo in your /etc/apt/sources.list and your /etc/apt/sources.list/*list files, then run:

      sudo apt-get build-dep scummvm

      And log the files installed. You can find all dev packages installed with something like:

      dpkg -l | grep '\-dev' | awk '{print $2}' | awk -F ':' '{print $1}

      That would probably get you 99% of the way there. Ditto for anything where an older version is in the native Debian/Raspbian repos, and you want to build a much newer version.

      @strells said in Auto aspect ratio for vertical games?:

      I left integer scale turned off so that the image, whether vertical or landscape, reaches the edge of my Arcade1Up 17

      Just be aware that not enabling integer scaling is not recommended because it will cause gfx issues due to bad nearest rounding, those gfx issues being more or less noticeable depending on the context.

      Great. I did not know that. Thank you for the heads up!

      @stoney66 well - switched the roms and now they work. Centipede, Missile Command, Golden Tee 2 are all working now under AdvMame. Marble Madness is still unhappy, but I would assume that's still just a rom issue. I think this issue is likely resolved now. Thank you everyone for your help! @mahoneyt944 and @stoney66

      Thanks all above for the help. I was able to clear that in the mame2003 core, but for some reason, mame 2010 was not as cooperative. It automatically binds the mame menus to the L3/R3 thumbstick buttons and can't be cleared (I tried using the same method as mame 2003, but to no avail). But I came up with an easier work around for both. I simply unbound my l2/r2 and l3/r3 buttons from my controllers themselves. I find there is no real need for any of these to be used for classic gaming, as all you really need are the shoulder and face buttons. So that uncomplicated things, and the menus are now no longer accessible. Easy peazy.
