From what little I know about it, the RS-97 is sort of the middle ground between the other two. It's not an open platform, but does have custom firmware being actively worked on. In my opinion, the ergonomics of a landscape-oriented device are always better than portrait, but superficially, I've really come to like the the look and feel of the original Game Boy. I do hope they release custom firmware for the new Bittboy, as I would love to play me some Sega Master System on the go.

I can try to help, but it depends on what you need to know exactly, my project is now done and works nicely, but it would be super long to explain the entire process from scratch, and I won't be able to remember everything.
I can share my scripts of course, my system works with multiple scripts and is pretty complicated, but to simplify, for this functionality, I could say that I have:

The code in the arduino that turns ON/OFF the leds and changes the colors A python script that sends the colors and led IDs information to the arduino (from the micro-controller). And when I launch a game, I have a bash script that reads a text file (where I put all the button information), then it sends this info to the python script.

Here are some pics of my project (I did it in 2 copies, one for me and one for a friend):

@Kaydenmario8 Depending on the emulator, some use 480p by default and you can't change it I think. There are two different resolution, one for render and one for output.

@Brunnis Hello Brunnis, I am glad you had a quick look at my results. I have high respect for your work.

I know something must went wrong on my test, as the outcome wasn't consistent and I didn't know the actual delay for input and output devices or even used wrong emulator settings. I expected some sort of delay and just wanted to know how my personal setup works. Currently, there the only way to play on CRT for me is to use that converter.

Quick test of GAMEPAD and CONVERTER

I did a quick test on my USB Fightstick on my PC without RetroPie.

Test 1 does not involve any display. It was just to see how long the LED light on the stick needs to turn on after pressing a button. This is hard to tell, as I can't say for 100% sure when the actual press of button sends a signal. At least the converter, monitor and usb aren't involved here.
Result: 1 or 2 frames of 240 fps, which translates to 0.25 to 0.5 frames at 60 fps (right?).

For Test 2 I used my daily Linux PC with 144 Hz HDMI monitor (without converter). jstest-gtk on Ubuntu was used to visualize a press button on display.
Result: I think 4 frames of 240 fps footage in addition after the LED is lighting up. That translates to 1 frame delay at 60 fps.

At Test 3 I connected same PC to the CRT PC monitor via HDMI to VGA converter. Same jstest-gtk was used as previous test.
Result: 6 or 7 frames at 240 fps footage after the LED is lighting up. Which translates to about 1.5 or 1.75 frames at 60 fps.

    Conclusion:

The arcade stick seems to add 1 or 1.5 frame delay on its own, which would mean 16.7ms or 25ms. If Test 2 and 3 are compared, the converter seems to add 1.5 or 1.75 frame delay on its own, which would mean 25ms or 29.2 ms. So, both together are in total adding up approx. about 3 frames or 50 ms latency.

Do you think the autofire/turbo-2 function of arcade stick could send too many key press events, so the emulator or driver gets too busy? Could this have an effect? What do you think about all of this? Does these sound reasonable?

And, should I also just copy the posting to Reddit?

Somewhere there is a hashtag movement cheering this.

One of the heavier building sites is mame2003-plus, a fork of Retropie's standard emulator for arcade games. You can view its own Changelog here. More recent improvements are discussed in its forum thread.

Yeah, I remember Upton doing a few interviews back in 2017, and he said they were looking at a 2019 release for the Pi 4.
So, like Mitu said, he's either trolling, or they've hit some problems.

Thanks guys. I posted on Reddit and they suggested messing with the service menu. And I got it better by modifying the c-trap setting.

@catsenti you're welcome just make sure to get the right version of the case based on which model of pi you have.

RetroPie includes several arcade emulators, including older versions of Mame, FBAlpha and even the current Libretro Mame branch (lr-mame). Take a look at the Arcade section of the docs to see what is available. I think cocktail mode works with at least lr-mame2003 (see Tate mode).

Sorry for the late response. Yes I did try the option to stretch the image but that did not fix the problem.

Thanks for the update, it's interesting to follow your way to a working solution.

Yeah, it seems that it is a kind of game of chance to get the right BT controllers for the Pi, may it be that I was lucky or you and @gpmcty were unlucky.

And yes, it seems to be either direct connection without the home key, or using an adapter. Ironically, I'm fine with my adapter although I don't use the home key anyway. :)

I use only one source port, Zandronum. I have heard of GZDoom, Odamex, Eternity, Chocolate Doom, Zdaemon and other various ZDoom projects. Is there an "ultimate" port to use, or are all of them distinctly the same with some minor differences, other than just using different ports to play multiplayer once in a while?

I think the case looks pretty neat, but the $80 is way too much for me to ever even think about purchasing one. I actually own one of those joysticks with the built-in fpga C64 in it that I bought for $3 at a thrift store, and while not quite as functional as the C64 mini without modification, it's served me well enough, and I plan on modding it when I get a change.
