There's a handy 'cloud' enabled saves storage script posted by one of the forum users - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/18712/script-setup-script-to-sync-saves-to-cloud-services. You can maybe adapt it for your needs; it's based on rclone(rclone.org).
Other than that, git would be easy to implement, but it's a bit overkill for this purpose - unless you'd like to have a versioning system in place. A simple rsync script would suffice.

As for the file types, I guess you'll have to think if you want to synchronize:

save states (*.state[X]) memory saves (*.srm) artwork/gamelistst (media folder and/or gamelist.xml).

@hansolo77 I think the retropie team is going to phase out any new binaries and updates for Jesse. The future is stretch. If your image on Jesse is running fine, there’s relly no reason to upgrade. But if you want the latest and greatest, it might be best to redo in stretch.

    Small supplement:

I updated steam-link with the experimental packages. Before, I added the PR from @psyke83 in scriptmodules/ports/steamlink.sh.

Now, I was able to play the dolphin-emulator mith my xbox-360 controller:

I opened steam on the host-pc I started steam-link in retropie I switched on Settings/Streaming/Advanced Options/Start Streaming desktop and then I started Now I was able to configure the controls within dolphin. I also made a combined hotkey to exit dolphin (In my case the Start and SELECT Button). Switched off Confirm On Stop and Render To Main Window on within the dolphin-emulator Switched off Settings/Streaming/Advanced Options/Start Streaming desktop Restarted steam-link and it worked

I also installed steam-devices on the Raspberry Pi too, but I don't know if it makes any differences. If I want to play a game with a keyboard, I have to plug off the controller before starting steam-link.

@pbirke According to the Wikipedia page, the only system that would run on the Pi is the Nintendo DS, other consoles will not run on the Pi. There is a similar game (FoFix) that runs on the PI, but you'll need to install the desktop part to be able to run it.

@ballboff AFAIK, it depends of the licenses you acquired and the laws in your country. If either of them do allow copying the roms on the cartridges for private use, you should be on the safe side. If not, you're very likely violating those licenses and/or laws.

@MajorDangerNine lr-vice has a virtual keyboard and you can control the mouse with your controller. Lr-bluemsx works. Msx does have some games that require some keyboard keys. Linapple works but there might be some games that require a keyboard press. Not sure though. After setting up controls you can play a ton of games in dosbox without a controller. Thats the extent of my computer gaming systems.

@Steaz you'll need to choose the gliden64 plugin from the runcommand menu. Although on the pi gliden64 will crash your pi after about 10-20mins :/ cross your fingers the next pi has a better GPU.

If anyone gets the error "pacdrive: error while loading shared libraries: libhid.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" with Retropie 4.4 on a Raspberry Pi, use this command to fix it:

    sudo mv /usr/local/lib/libhid.* /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/

It will move the libhid files to the correct location where pacdrive can find them.

@Ecks said in PI3+ and gamecube Emulator:

I know i am a little late on this but having a PC that has 2.56GHz and 8GB of memory you need a good GPU as well because i have an old system which is using a Athlon 5350 with 8gb memory and a HD 7750 and i am able to emulate Gamecube and PS2 games perfectly fine and also the Athlon 5350 is clocked in at 2.05GHz quad core which is why i believe if they would make a Pi 4 it should be able to handle 2.5D PS2/Gamecube games and higher graphic mame games without any problems.

I'll admit cpu frequency is not the most accurate indicator, you would need more proper benchmark, however :

it seems your Athlon 5350 @2.05 Ghz actually has better single thread performance than my pentium N3710 @2.56Ghz at the same cpu frequency, i expect an arm cpu to be slower than a x86 cpu (i always heard the old rpi1@700Mhz was roughly equivalent to an old pentium2@400Mhz in terms of single thread performance) your expectations are way too high about the gpu for the next raspberry, even if the future VC5 was any good, i doubt it would outperform the desktop class gpu included in my pentium N3710

    Thank you!!

I thought I was going crazy! Weird thing is I just dismissed Sonic 3 as I really don't remember playing it all that often. I remember getting frustrated that the first level, trying to be a bit like Green Hill Zone, was really slow moving and wasn't interested at all. Obviously I must have deleted the memory where we went onto play the rest of the game!

@roslof @VictimRLSH I just compared videos of the arcade version and the snes version of Race Drivin'. Wow, I am puzzled how the publishers of the snes version didn't see that horrible frame rate and say, "ok guys, nice try, but we can't sell THAT". 😵

edit: That said, I couldn't stop playing Stunt Car Racer on the Amiga back in those days. But although it also has a painfully low frame rate by today's standards, it played very well as far as I can remember. Maybe nostalgia, but maybe not. 😉

@BobHarris that's most likely the issue then. I'll have to search for it myself then, as it is also one of my favorites when i was able to play.

  • If a no-intro rom is "(Europe)" does that always mean it's PAL?

@brimby It is overwhelmingly likely that European ROM files will be using the old PAL standard. Most emulators will run the game internally at 50fps but output 60fps to modern displays if you set them to do so. That means the unoptimized PAL ports that ran at incorrect speeds on original hardware will still have that problem preserved in most emulators at. If a game also had an NTSC release in a language that you can read, it's generally recommended that you use that file instead.
