    ...I think it was my fault...
    I was thinking, that retropie shows me the usb files, when i plug in the stick...
    But it look like, it shows alltime the files on the sd card ;-)
    ...so I have created a folder "retropie-mount" on the usb stick, let retropie copy all roms to it, and after that I deleted any files in "\retropie\roms"
    Look like this solve my issue.

    I think now I understand the differents between the directory "retropie" and "retropie-mount"
    ...if I want to import roms to the sd card, i put the files on the usb stick to "retropie" and if I like to use a external usb stick as storage for the roms, I use the "retropie-mount" directory on the usb stick...
    Is this right?

    @retroprogrammer No problem. The switch issue on Raspberry Pi is a need for everyone, not just RetroPie users. So, you can google the idea and find all kinds of examples of people using a simple momentary switch to short a GPIO pin to ground with examples of their custom scripts to monitor for that event. In most cases, examples in include a shutdown command, and that would be enough to do a soft shutdown or reboot. However, it is this command that you could replace with something more retropie-specific found in the threads here.

    Ok have resolved this issue by performing a fresh install after backing up roms via network

    Installed using retropie v4 video

    installing controller from fresh install all works fine, 2nd player works fine too

    also start & select now exits games

    @mitu Okay, just did that, didn't work.

    I decided to see if there were some config settings or something under xboxdrv so I ran it from the terminal, but it throws an error saying there are no Xbox controllers connected...
    Even though I was just using it in ES.

    I then ran jstest which looked actually does detect controller inputs... so I don't know where the issue really is... unless my controller is incompatible with xboxdrv?

    I've used 2 different controllers for testing though and they don't work.

    @mitu , thanks for your reply.

    I have not used Pastebin before, so I hope I am doing this right.

    I have one controller plugged in; the GameCube controller through the Mayflash adaptor. I have remapped the controller to use the xboxdrv using these instructions and I only configured the xboxdrv controller through the EmulationStation Configure Input tool, which explains why the runcommand.log says the controller on Pad #0 does not have a profile but the xboxdrv controller on Pad #1 does have a profile.

    [INFO] [udev]: Plugged pad: Wii U GameCube Adapter Port 1 (0:0) on port #0. [INFO] [udev]: Pad #0 (/dev/input/event0) supports force feedback. [INFO] [udev]: Pad #0 (/dev/input/event0) supports 4 force feedback effects. [INFO] [Autoconf]: 4 profiles found. [INFO] [Autoconf]: no profiles found for Wii U GameCube Adapter Port 1 (0/0). [INFO] [udev]: Plugged pad: Wii_GameCube_Port_1_(xboxdrv) (0:0) on port #1. [INFO] [udev]: Pad #1 (/dev/input/event1) supports force feedback. [INFO] [udev]: Pad #1 (/dev/input/event1) supports 16 force feedback effects. [INFO] [Autoconf]: 4 profiles found. [INFO] [Autoconf]: selected configuration: /home/pi/.config/retroarch/autoconfig/Wii_GameCube_Port_1_(xboxdrv).cfg [INFO] [Joypad]: Found joypad driver: "udev".

    In the RetroPad section (see the full runcommand.log in the pastebin link below) it looks like the Start Button is mapped correctly. If the Start Button worked for me, I can see how to edit the config file to fix the button mapping.

    For what it is worth, I first configured the Gamecube Controller without the xboxdrv and I had the same results; the Start, DPAD, A and B buttons worked fine in EmulationStation and seemed dead in the RetroArch emulator. Here is the complete runcommand.log

    Thanks for your time.

    @danielmewhouse said in "B" turns to "X" on second controller after restart:

    @notechskill said in "B" turns to "X" on second controller after restart:

    @danielmewhouse just to be clear. On my keyboard hit f4 and go to the command prompt and type in exactly what you have typed out there?

    If your problem is on EmulationStation, use "sudo nano /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_input.cfg" to edit the file. You'll need to find the X and B buttons on the config file and swap the id value.

    i could be wrong, but sudo shouldn't be necessary when editing files in one's own home directory

    @zac No pi is created equal. You can start off with the example settings from https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Overclocking and tweak it from there. You also need proper cooling like a flirc case or a heatsink with fan.

    @cash513 The image is to stretched to recognize the program that gives you this error. However, it seems the file is an .img file and this is the file that you can use with Win32DiskImager.
    Start Win32DiskImager, choose your sd card partition and then browse to the folder where this file is stored and choose this file to be written to the sd card.

    Guys - I has just written a HUGE answer with all information. Seriously spent 30 minutes putting stuff on pastebin etc.

    But as I was re-reading my ipega media gamepad controller.cfg file before I pressed the submit I noticed the

    input_enable_hotkey_btn = "157"

    Now. I SWEAR to you last time I read that file it was correctly mapped to the SELECT button on the Ipega (10)

    BUT I have messed in the retroarch.cfg file since then to change the driver from udev to sdl2 (only way to get that controller to work with more than just the d-pad in games). I have probably NOT checked it since.

    I went in to the ipega file, changed the 157 to 10. Did not even reboot the retropie, just started the controller. Closed my eyes in Centipede, and pressed Select and Start.

    AND

    Found myself back at the Retropie main menu. What the?

    Spent all day looking for something, when a simple double check would have netted the correct result in 2 minutes. I don't know how that file changed. I'm sure it's something myself or the kids have done while messing about. I don't remember doing it so I'll blame the kids because I can.

    It's all working now.

    Of course, now my son wants to connect an XBOX controller as a second Joypad. More reading to do.

    Thanks so much guys. Sorry to screw up but without you guys asking me to paste my config files I would not have noticed the changes that broke it.

    Regarding quake:

    Again I'm an idiot. I never checked to see if the +3 and -3 were the actual values. The axis on a PS4 controller is actually + and - 5. So all I had to do was replace the 3s with 5s. Not sure why binding it to 3 made the controller unresponsive though.

    input_remapping_directory = "/opt/retropie/configs/ports/quake/" input_player1_r_y_minus_axis = "+5" input_player1_r_y_plus_axis = "-5" #include "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg"

    The length and quality of your HDMI cable could actually have been the culprit, as you said.
    You may want to try with a better/shorter cable.
    Another way could be to boost the HDMI signal by editing config.txt, see here : https://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Video But a good cable is a better solution.

    @mitu @jonnykesh
    I appreciate your input. In regard to your late comment on the other topic, I was just following what was suggested.
    Please refer to dankcushions comment, as I stated before my intent is not to annoy y'all experts in the subject.
    I am just looking for help , not soft attack. Don't get me wrong, I understood your point behind the post . It is just frustrating that it triggered an immediate accusation as being a spammer.
    But anyway I guess people will never change.
    Thank you for the correction. After the comment I tried to correct the misunderstanding but I guess the 2nd topic is locked . lol.
    Whatever, I can probably continue to poke around and find someone with a true desire to help.
    I wish you both a very blessed evening.
    Cheers
