@RpiBeginner just wanted to point out that your screenshot is 'aplay -l', and the instructions say 'aplay -L'. You need the capital L option to get the right output. That will allow you the correct name of the audio card.

Each audio card has one or more audio mixers (audio devices) on the audio card. Emulationstation needs to know which audio mixer to use on the audio card when you do the volume up and down. To find that out you need to use 'amixer scontrols -D <AudioCard>', where <AudioCard> is replaced by the name of your audio card you got in the previous step. I know from your screenshot that your audio card is set to the 'default', so you should run 'amixer scontrols -D default'. That command should show you the correct name of the audio mixer on your 'default' audio card. It will most likely be called 'Digital' or something like that. Please note that you must copy the name exactly as it is printed.

Those two commands above will give you the settings you need.

The first command gives you the name of the audio card you select in emulationstation, which is 'default' (based on your screenshot).

The second is the name of the audio mixer (audio device) on that audio card, which you'll need to run yourself to get.

That would be all you need to get around for most things... Except video sounds. RPI uses OMX player to play the sounds from video files, and they need a third setting! This setting looks different again from the ones we got earlier. The format is:

    'hdmi:hw:0,0'

That setting will use the first mixer on the first audio card for video sounds. If that setting doesn't work then you should try 'hdmi:hw:0,1', which will use the second mixer on the first audio card.

Hopefully that will give you all the information you need right there. Remember that if you cannot select the setting directly from within emulationstation you can add the setting directly to the es_settings.cfg itself . Please see the instructions page I linked to earlier for more details if you need to do that.

Hope this all helps! Good luck.

You can remove the USB drive as long as you don't need to read stuff from it.

If there is no /opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv folder after installation, then it means the installation didn't complete correctly. Note that the install doesn't add a hackfile, so if your configuration included one, you'll have to add it manually.

I have the exact same issue. Was there ever a fix? I'm trying to remove the overlay side bars for every system, especially classic Arcade games like Mrs. PacMan for my 1Up Arcade cab. screen. Thanks in advance.

@noddingdonkeys uae4arm is for arm based systems. It's not available for x86. Btw Amiberry is a better emulator for arm.

Fs-uae works best on a pc.

If you're having issues please detail your setup and the problem. Whdload is the best way of running multi disk games.

@Dezmancer you are correct in that component is superior to s-video, my bad, I read component as composite.
but in old consoles s-video can be enough to look very crisp unless you are using a state of the art tv.

edit: also I have a retroduo too and the output is very crisp and clean in comparison to a regular snes.

@muldjord ok, I got it to work! What I had to do was go into the Skyscraper menu, select cache options, select purge specific system. Then I rescanned for sources and generated a list. Woo! Other threads on this site helped me put the pieces together. Thanks all!

Both configs are correct. Your new configuration has axis for the directional buttons, most likely you've configured the joystick as a D-Pad this time ? EmulationStation should work with both D-pad and Joysticks.

As for MAME2003, what game are you trying out ? It may be that the same has no analog controls and thus it expects digital (i.e. D-pad) controls. You can play with RetroArch's settings for this - in the Controls section of the RGUI, you can switch the P1 device type to RetroPad w/ Analog and change the User 1 Analog to Digital to either Left Analog or Right Analog, depending on how you mapped your joystick in MAME.

Is this a genuine DS4 (Sony) or a clone ? I have the same controller and it works without issues (wired or bluetooth).
