Maybe the particular ROM became corrupted.
Maybe that particular ROM isn't correct for the core, but was "close enough" (not really a thing) for a slightly different core? (e.g. MAME2003, MAME2003plus, MAME2010, etc.) There could be a variety of reasons. I agree, specific logs are the best "next step".

@dankcushions Thank you very much for the clarification! I guess my original problem is solved now.

@mitu Thanks for the help - you're right I did have a settings override for the core, and I had no idea those settings contained the screen mode as well.
So I had to delete the settings override file for the core, then set my screenmode in runcommand, then save my settings override again. All working now.

@george-spiggott said in Amiberry Configuration File - can't locate:

@adambegood I'm also experiencing intermittent results from Auto height. I don't have Rick Dangerous 2 but Shadow of the Beast works fine for me.

Now that I've got the latest Amiberry after updating from Source, Shadow Of The Beast works fine for me also. I have some games with anomalies on auto-height still, but overall I am very happy with the way things are working.

On a slightly different note, I have got some games with graphical glitching (Deluxe Galaga and Plan 9 from Outer Space are the ones I recall). Do you know if there are any settings that might sort those out, or is it just something that has to be accepted?

Edit: Notice here you have mentioned graphical issues: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/30213/amiberry-4-0-released/8?_=1617581491663

I guess these may be sorted as the core is worked on then.

@jamrom2 said in Quick question about lr-vice:

Do you still have vice loaded? Did you try Vic 20 games in that?

Yes. It's completely messed up. Most of my games were saved as snapshots to avoid endless messing around with RAM settings etc, and the new one has completely wrecked the snapshot format so none of them work. Cartridges don't work either.

@dankcushions Thank you very much for responding. Unfortunately, none of this is working.

Here are the changes I'm making: Retroarch Menu, Input, Port 1 Binds (Mouse to 1, Trigger to fire)

If I select Quick Menu, Controls, Save Game Remap File

    or

Quick Menu, Options, Save Game Options Files (rom name)

    Neither saves the settings above.

Under Input, Port 1 Binds, there's a Save Autoconfig File option, but I'm hesitant to select that because I'm not sure exactly what it will do.

@iandaemon yes, that’s pretty much it. Emulation station writes a configure file for retro arch and other emulators. If you change a button in retro arch, say you like to use y and b as your a and b in Nes per say, and reconfigure, it doesn’t effect the hot keys. Those are still mapped to the original emulation station setup. So let’s say you move start to say, R1 in retro arch, start for the hot key will still be the original start you chose in emulation station.

@valabrax said in Which files/directories should I restore after doing a fresh image install?:

Looking at the backup methods on https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/ I think the best one for me in this situation is to backup the bios, configs, and roms directories via the samba shares. However, assuming the update works perfectly, which of these directories should I copy back over to preserve my roms, save states/files, and configurations (like controller configs and core-level configs). I'm assuming just the roms and configs directory and that I should not copy bios back over to the new image, but I wanted to check and be sure.

as the docs says, you'll want to backup all 3 https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/#backup-option-2

By installing from source and now doing a new image install, am I nuking my micro-sd card with writes? I have no idea how many writes an install from source does, but it took hours to finish.

it's not ideal but during development i do many days worth of rebuilds and my SD cards tend to last years before crapping out.

For my RPI 4B+, I bought this one - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07W6T25Y4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

It has an on/off switch - which the Canakit adapter didn't have, it is manufactured by a reliable (name brand) company and has great user reviews.
Since I have used it, I never have the yellow lightening bolt (low voltage warning) show up in Raspberry Pi OS - a problem I was plagued with in my Raspberry Pi 3B+ setup and generic adapter.

@oleguer The CEA video modes you're referring to are set via tvservice, which doesn't work correctly on the Pi4 so those set of video modes are not available. The runcommand launch menu shows the resolutions that your TV reports it supports - that's what is offered for the video mode change.

You can set still a custom resolution via config.txt (see https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/hdmi-config.md) if you wish to use a video mode not reported by your TV.

@buzz Yup, I stand corrected. I think it is the NOOB image that it was installed on by default. or maybe something else I downloaded.

Hi all, sorry for dragging up an old thread. Has anyone got this to work on the latest Retropie image (4.7.1)? I had it installed on an old 4.4 image working absolutely fine, thought I would update to latest image 4.7.1 followed all the same steps (actually copied what was written in the old image that worked) in relation to detecting hdmi. But I can’t get it to work in 4.7.1, it always defaults into hdmi and cannot get itself back into lcd when you don’t have an hdmi cable installed. I often see ‘Unk-Comp-Dev’ in the text when booting rather than ‘[E] No Device Present]. Wondering if the updated Retropie version somehow recognizes the LCD screen differently which is preventing this script from working? It seems to always boot into hdmi like it always thinks something is plugged in when it’s not.

Any help to get it working would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

Ok found a solution in another thread no longer need a script to do what I need just a simple addition to the config.txt file, all sorted! Thanks!
