If you want to set up a new model, simply clone your /home/pi/RetroPie folder to your PC, install RetroPie on the new SD card, delete the new /home/pi/RetroPie folder, replacing it with the existing one.

To update, it looks like everything is working after disabling the favorites and last played menus. I also updated what I could to the latest; there was a conflict on setup script so that wouldn't go without massaging. I still feel like the underlying problem is still there and would come back if I re-enable, but I'm not going to pursue farther.

@George-Spiggott Ok, I will try them out with other settings and see how it goes. One thought I have is that they actually are .lha format and maybe the files then are assumed to be WHDload when run and then it fails to load since they are not... Did that make any sense? :)

I haven't tried ISO yet but will give that a go if I can't get the .lha files to work.

That might be handled automatically by the Gamepad API in SDL2, hence the game usage of the gamecontrollerdb file. One solution to noise and ground loops is to use an isolated sound card for the Pi.

If the sound card is magnetically isolated, then noise and hum (ground loops) from the Pi can't get to the acoustic pathway.

I'm not sure if the 8bit hack is needed with recent (i.e. latest) firmware revisions on the 8bitdo controllers. You should try and remove the options, then re-configure the controllers.

For the Pro2 - try testing it with jstest (more details here) and see if the gamepads buttons are registering. You might want to try other connection mode for the gamepad - Switch/Android - if the gamepad is in 'PC/Windows' (I think that enables XInput) mode.

There isn't, the message is just a parsing error, indicating that the scraper site hasn't responded with a well formed XML message. It's because - at the moment - scraping from ScreenScraper doesn't work for un-registered users. You'll have to use an external scraper (see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Scraper/) that supports scraping with a registered account or scrapes from a different source.

Use lr-vice it's easier to disable certain buttons so this doesn't happen
