Unfortunately, the retroarch guys say a pi port can't be done due to the limitations of the pi's gpu. Not sure if that'll change.

      So, thanks for the help.

I found on my computer the file SMS BIOS V1.3 (UE) [h1].sms. I started it up. It showed the Sega Master System startup screen, then it went to the Snail Maze without any prompting from me. So, thanks for the help everyone. I feel 14 years old again :D

@tuki_cat use the RetroArch RGUI and choose the options in the configuration. Or, modify the global config file in ’/opt/Retropie/configs/all’. Make sure you don't have config_save_on_exit options configured.

Update, I've gotten it semi working. Somethings wrong with my retroarch setup, the default bios directory is not the actual bios folder, i had to manually set it to that. Semi working because I can't seem to get retroarch to use global configs, i have to manually set each systems directory.

But thats not the topic of this thread. I guess for the time being this is a moot issue, the asterix dont seem to mean anything and arent causing the problem. Thank you all for your time.

I wonder if my issue stems from doing an update to retropie 4.4 rather than a clean image?

Either that or my defaults were already overwritten by today's change :)

That could be the case. Mine was 'Auto' and I didn't run the update beforehand.

Roms are all working on my PC.
I realize it was just a issue during the transfert of the rom to my raspberry, now it should work.... but actually my raspberry pi seems not to respond to my SD card.
I tried to reboot on the new retropie IMG, and nothing. Green led blink twice, then nothing.... when I try the same SD card on another pi It's working.

If you have any advice for this issue, that would be great.
You already helped me a lot. Thank you.

Thanks for the response once again mitu! I thought there might have been a bios, since I tried a couple of games and they loaded without giving me a "missing bios" error.

The BIOS file, neogeo.zip, for NeoGeo games using lr-fbalpha can be placed in the BIOS folder (source). This does only work on recent versions of lr-fbalpha.

I set up my Neo Geo system recently and placing neogeo.zipin the BIOS folder did not work on v0.2.97.39 that was installed on my system. It worked fine when I updated to v0.2.97.42.

@tomume https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/#installing-additional-emulators - choose to install the emulators for MSX - lr-bluemsx. Then restart ES and see if your ROMs (and the MSX folder) appear.
Check the file extension and make sure you use lowecase for the ROMs.

fair enough. please edit the wiki if you can find a nice way of including that information.

for me those customized .dats probably shouldn't be used by beginners at all. the beginner approach should always be to put the right romset in the right folder and not mess about with dats or clrmamepro at all :)

This seems to happen intermittently depending on whether I use the SAMBA share or SFTP using Filezilla. Files go missing when in Fiezilla, but appear to be there when I look through Windows Explorer. I just say it happen the other-way round. I deleted a bunch of files in Filezilla and then transferred new ones in. They show up in Filezilla but on through Samba.

@dankcushions This is true! I've been thinking the same, but how well does the PS1 games run on the RPI3?

good news! perfectly :) there a few psx games with niggles but 99% will run at full speed with no issues.

I've seen saturn emulators having slowdown on an intel core i3 @ 3.4Ghz, don't expect to run those on a raspberry pi 3, neither raspberry pi 4, neither raspberry pi 5, except perhaps if someone create a dynarec (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_recompilation if you don't know what i mean)

@flavor I have some code that does this but it's not yet committed as needs testing. It should enable usbromservice to update when updating retropie without having to disable/re-enable. I will commit it once I have tested it further.
