I've had 4 running with no problem. All different types. Sometimes all hard wired, sometimes hardwired with some wireless thrown in. Only problem is finding out (and fighting over) who's player 1, player 2, etc. (especially in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -or "Hero Turtles" for you lame brits ;) where each player is stuck with their assigned ninja turtle.

Just wanted to post an update to fix bad info. The Bliss-box is fully working with the pi since 1.56.1.

Well, disabling ertm (which is high speed bluetooth, and could prevent other bluetooth devices to work) and the usual arcade coin button not working looks like 2 pretty big issues to me. This one won't be part of my collection for now.

I don't have sony controller a Sony controller or a PS3 controller.
I tried to remove/clear any configuration file that recall sony controller but with no success.

Anyway I solved with a clean installation of retropie. ES recognizes just my two controllers (logitech gamepad and keyboard), Kodi works great.

@backstander just to make sure we're not having miscommunication, you're using multiple controllers at once? The hid quirk seemed to have no affect....

I bought and converted an old Saturn controller which I found pretty easy. I used the db9 driver and wired it to the gpio pins, but when researching the wiring loads of people had been converting them to USB.

Plenty of people have done this using x360 controllers, and there are in depth guides about it. The biggest issue is that the common ground tends to vary on some of the controllers thus people have to do twice as much soldering rather than daisy-chaining the ground and it means a little more room for error as you have to scratch off paint over contacts and solder to the board. Like i say, this if for x360 though so might be totally different with ps3. Good luck!

I see. So the Xbox dongle would in port 0, the nes in port 1, the DB9 connectors (if this works) in port 2, and the "rom drive" in port 3. Now, what about using a USB hub? I bought a 4-port hub to connect USB devices to (like keyboard, mouse, etc) via the cartridge slot. Should this be plugged into 0, and then the Xbox dongle plugged into that? Or would it make more sense to connect the rom drive to that and have it plugged into port 3? I found out the 4-port (usb powered) hub isn't powerful enough to supply power to my keyboard, so I'm going to the computer store tomorrow to buy a powered one, and was thinking a 7 port one would work nice. The kind with 4 on one side (available via the cartridge slot) and 3 "internal" that I can connect things like the NES ports too. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to do it.

So is at all possible then the idea of having interchangeable controllers?
