@smurf said in Daphne command line not working:

I have lots of space on my sd card so I have a couple versions of each game.

You don't even need the .m2v file in each folder for different rom versions of the same game. Just point the path in the [gamename].txt file to the folder where the .m2v resides. For example, my lair.m2v resides in daphne/lair.daphne, but I also have dle21 in its own directory daphne/dle21.daphne.

      My lair.txt in daphne/lair.daphne/:

      . 151 lair.m2v

      My dle.txt in daphne/dle21.daphne/:

      ../lair.daphne/ 151 lair.m2v

Mind the first line. In lair.txt, it points to "this directory" (.), but in dle.txt it points to lair.daphne "one level above this directory" (..), both paths seen relatively from the location of the respective .txt file. Since both rom versions use the same video file, this saves a lot of space.

Alternatively, you could create a symbolic link to the file in the other directory:

      ln -s /home/pi//RetroPie/roms/daphne/lair.daphne/lair.m2v /home/pi//RetroPie/roms/daphne/dle.daphne/lair.m2v

The first method has the advantage that it still works even if the daphne directory is moved to another location, as long as lair.daphne and dle21.daphne remain at the same relative positions to each other.

Yeah I know, you said that you have lots of space, but maybe that will change in the future with an ever growing games collection, or others here will find this useful. :)

if your happy with it all the retropie configuration to run it. im not sure if retropie 4.4 supports sdl2_opengles youll need to ask someone at retropie headquarters if they support this or have and intentions too. it runs very nice on a debian x64 :)

The most unusual time I've ever played the game was on a Tandy computer back in the day.

That's impressive to get through with one player. I was never quite that good but the enjoyment was off the hook. You'll enjoy the updated graphics.

That was my first computer I actually purchased fully out of my own pocket. Tandy 1000 HX with dual 3.5 floppies that held a whopping 720KB per floppy. It had 256KB of RAM expanded to 640KB. It seems weird that those old systems worked in less than 1MB of RAM. No hard drive.

We also would type in old BASIC programs into a VIC-20 similar to Zork but smaller. Back then it was still fun even knowing every possible outcome to every decision.

I have no idea how we survived the incredibly long load times on the C64. I do remember some of the games like Karateka taking 20 to 30 minutes to load.

Some say Moore's Law is coming to a close well at least for silicon. I suppose that's ok we'll just use our computers longer or prices won't drop as quickly or who knows really. I don't know if it's Intel or consumers driving the market to buy bigger and better every few years or companies like Apple that make it a yearly party to repurchase everything. It hardly seems a necessity nowadays but technology is interesting none the less!

@derebo The ROMs with pat the end are for the Pioneer board. From the .txt file inside of one:

Pioneer version of board uses same ROMs as Hitachi version, except 5473c and 5474a are not used, and IC3 (5596) and IC10 (?) are added. NoTE: The ROMs in IC3/IC10 on my board are apparently not the same as the 'standard' ones. I was told that these ROMs did not work when swapped into a board that had a different set, and vice-versa. If I can find out any more info (and/or get a dump of the other ROMs), I will!

OK so the difficulty thing I got working fine so that now hides the arrow and action presses.

I've ditched the idea of going directly into the Daphne Emulator at bootup since I found a better theme that I don't mind it as much having the option up there before going to the game selection.

So the only two problems I'd still like to figure out is:

Why in Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp when I die it starts to play the death scene and then a second or two of another death scene before going back to the next life.

And the Cthulhu PCB not being recognized after it's reboot. Checked other forums regarding the Cthulhu PCB and no one seems to have any info with it regarding RetroPie and why it doesn't get recognized on bootup until it's unplugged and plugged back in.

      @telengard

Did you ever figure out how to set/unset the framebuffer settings after launching advmame?

Unfortunately no. I reported the issue back in April of this year, but unfortunately the same behavior still exists in the latest AdvanceMAME 3.9. Currently, I believe the only solution is to reboot RetroPie after AdvanceMAME has been launched during a session to reset the framebuffer.

Like any big project with limited contributors, bug reports known to affect more users are often prioritized. That being the case, it might help for those affected here to add a comment to the thread. Nothing pushy of course. Just a simple "same here" type statement would do the job.
