    Snow Bros, Zupapa, Bang Bang Busters, Tumblepop and Don Doko Don are great kids games on MAME. Others already mentioned Frogger and Rod Land.

    Also fantastic, but a fair bit more difficult, are Kickle Cubicle, Pang (aka Buster Bros) and Solomon's Key.

    Also check out Funky Jet, although it might be deemed to 'aggressive' by some (beating enemies with boxing gloves while jetpaccing around).

    For kids a bit older, Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy might be fun, as well as Spinmaster.

    @Floob Thanks for stopping by! :)

    The overlays I'm trying to convert are OrionsAngel's.
    The only config files I have are the mameconfig and the mamelayout (in the zip)

    I have generated the cfg just using the values in the mamelayout file, but they are pretty much all configured with the same values (unless my conversion script is wrong, which is possible), so I'm starting to think the values in the mameconfig file are important as well... but I just can't figure out what I should multiply.

    For now I'm resigned to measure the values "by hand" in Photoshop (I have done about 20 of 250...) which will take some time but is not very hard.

    @peterd0404 said in 8bitdo SF Pro - up/down left/right are not the same analog joystick:

    I assume I have to modify emulators settings for the analog sticks. Are there instructions to modify that?

    Check the emulator page in the docs to see more details about input configuration. There are 2 kinds of emulators present in:

    Libretro based emulators - they're run from RetroArch and they all benefit from the same input configuration. You can easily recognize them by their name (lr-...). To configure them, just press Select + X while in-game and then you'll get the configuration menu for RetroArch where you can change your input settings and then save it.
    I'd suggest trying to set your gamepad with the Analog option - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#analog-controller-type

    Non-libretro emulators (like advmame), which have their own input configuration. RetroPie will try to pre-configure them, based on your input mapping from the Emulationstation configuration dialog, but some of them might require tweaking.

    @fen84

    has anyone been able to get Mario Kart Arcade GP (or 2) MAME working?

    'Mario Kart Arcade GP' runs on the Triforce arcade system which is based on GameCube hardware. Unfortunately the Raspberry Pi isn't nearly powerful enough to emulate a system that demanding.

    As for the rest of your issues, You can't just "pop" any old ROM in the arcade folder. You need to get a specific numbered ROM set for the arcade emulator you've chosen. For example, the default arcade emulator in RetroPie is lr-mame2003, which uses the MAME 0.78 ROM set. Anything outside of the intended ROM set for your chosen emulator will usually result in failure. Also, as a rule of thumb, any game north of 1995 has an increasingly higher chance of running poorly on the Pi.

    Everything you need to know for arcade emulation in RetroPie is covered here.

    You're too modest. With all the frenzied action and relatively low points per kill, it's a great score.

    @spudsmctoole And for your autostate thing, I've faced exact the same effect that the option was activated! .... I've written a small script that will alter your retroarch.cfg as you want.

    You can find it here: Dirty Little RetroArch.cfg writer

    You can call the script to disable autostate_save feature like this

    $HOME/RetroPie/scripts/SetRetroArchCfg.sh "$1" "savestate_auto_save" "true" "false"

    @AndrewH How do I get the config file location, when I am installing the files and the overlays. changed to

    input_overlay = "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/overlay/arcade-bezels/galaga-AH.cfg" <----This a correct statement
    input_overlay_enable = "true"
    input_overlay_opacity = "1.000000"
    input_overlay_scale = "1.000000"

    This initially is being pointed at input_overlay = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/overlays/arcade-bezels/galaga-Ah.cfg" (belive this is where it was pointed) this does not work with retropi 4.X . This is for all the config files I have installed. DK - Frogger galaxian.

    Also how do I get the rom to fit in the 1280x1024 5:4 overlay . The rom output is slightly larger then the overlay. I redid a couple of them to fit.

    Otherwise thanks for putting this toghther you saved me a lot of trouble .

    @jbryan1984 said in Need help with MAME (reading did not help):

    I read somewhere rom set 0.78 seems to work the best.

    Specifically, it works with lr-mame2003, which is the default MAME emulator in RetroPie. Keep in mind that if you ever change your emulator you'll need to obtain the corresponding ROM set or you'll have the same issues.

    It says Simpsons 4 players so I am guessing that has something to do with it?

    It does. What you want is the Simpsons 2 Player ROM. Player one and two can then freely choose their character.

    @stevepax Hi, I have the same setup as you so I am hoping I can help.

    There are two keys that I know of in MAME that could be doing what you suggest, "F10" which toggles throttle on and off, and "insert" which throttles when it is held down. As mitu suggests try pressing tab to get into MAME menu and check the Input (General) and see what the throttle key is assigned to.

    Setting up the controls for Street Fighter 2 and other similar six buttons games took a little trial on error (as least it did for me!). If it helps I have my buttons set up like this:

    Player one

    Top row from left to right
    LP - lctrl (P1 button 2)
    MP - lalt (P1 button 3)
    HP - space (P1 button 5)

    Bottom row from left to right

    LK - lshift (P1 button 1)
    MK - z (P1 button 4)
    HK - x (P1 button 6)

    I set the keys up from within MAME using Input (this game).

    Hope that helps

    Sorry to be so awfully slow, but I have had my arcade put aside for quite some time, but @meleu I now reformatted my ROMS USB to NTFS format and now your script works!

    Well done and thanks!

    Merry christmas to you all!

    This is essentially a vertical shooter. Don't focus on spraying DK all the way to the top unless you have the super sprayer, just kill all the bugs and the level will end. This is especially key on the level with the missing platform in the center.

    On the level where he is throwing coconuts at you, he alternates between throwing one directly at you, and throwing one at a hive to release bugs. Keep track of which one he is on, and be ready to dodge the one coming for you. You need to move quick, don't be in the middle of a level change or jumping in the air to shoot him. On these levels you do have to spray him to the top, but it is quite easy to do as he doesn't release very many bugs at once. Remember that shooting the caterpillars just stuns them and keeps them in your way, so when you are trying to spray DK to the top on this round, don't hit the caterpillars, let them crawl past your line of fire.

    Don't "run and gun" the bumblebees, as they split into parts that will kill you, always be directly under them and stay there until the shrapnel is past.

    The blue wasps will fix on your vertical position from the sides and then VERY quickly move in for the kill. Get under them by dropping down one level and shooting them from underneath after they fix on you but BEFORE they move in. If you see blue wasps coming out of the hives, do NOT be on the very bottom , as you won't be able to kill them after you dodge their attack until you move under them again.

    @dmwisniewski You're better off running finalburn alpha or mame2003. I usually use fba until I find a game that runs faster in mame2003. Or if a game is exclusive to mame.
