      @stsweeney41 said in Where to put the mame2003 samples files:

      This did not work for me. If it is just my install, then I am fine, but may want to mention the other location in the docs, since it is what is mentioned in the info file I mentioned above, and it does work in my case.

      The 'other' location from the .info file refers to the BIOS files, not the samples. Same info from our docs is found also in the official core documentation. Note that RetroPie configures the 'system folder' to /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/.

      If you have reset your RetroArch configuration - using the Reset menu in RetroArch - then the 'system folder' is empty and defaults to the ROM folder, which might be your case.

      @mitu

      You should add arm_64bit=0 to config.txt and reboot
      Try adding PTR64=0 to the build options

      That were the solutions.
      I expect it will also work without using PTR64=0 now.
      Compiling seems to be about 10 hours on a RPI4/8GB which is much better than 1 month on a PI0/1.

      So now I have a working binary and channelf is working as expected ;-)
      Will try some other systems later.

      Thanks !

      @antsgamingau Additionally to retropie's arcade documentation, you might want to read the more detailled libretro's arcade documentation.

      arcade console games

      I'm not sure what you mean by that, could you give an example ?

      @callycoon said in Mame Roms quit working:

      Mame 2003

      The purpose of those vintaged cores was to be snapshots of how the concerned emulator was back in that year, amongst other thing to guarantee the romsets don't change and to prevent the performance regressions coming from bugfixes. Well, i recently learnt that the situation might be more hazardous though, but i don't think retropie is auto-updating so i suppose your issue is elsewhere.

      @jamietuley my first question is if this a RetroPie build image or did this come from something else. Honestly, hissing is something I've never had an issue with with any of the 4 Pi3bs I own, nor was it a problem with my Pi2 before.

      I don't know why you would have needed to alter any config file for the sound. It's better not to play around with any of the base configs and just use the menu to turn things on and off. You can try the Raspi-config menu and see if anything regarding sound is not active. But I think the Audio selection in the RetroPie setup does the same.

      Anything above that is above my skill level. I've not experienced the issue you're having, nor did I have to play around with the config file to get anything to work. I used the menus only.

      Sorry

      @UndeadSoul There's nothing to fix. That's how arcade games are built. Pac-Man didn't have two joysticks. Street Fighter did.

      @oleguer please provide all the info requested in my link. that includes a specific example game, the image you used, the verbose log, and so forth.

      that said, i don't use advmame on pi4 - i believe it is unoptimized. in the first instance you should use one of the recommended MAME/FBN emulators: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/#step-1-choose-your-arcade-emulators

      lr-fbneo is probably the best all-round performer.

      @duglor said in What file tells the various mames to use their artwork cfg files with their matching name roms?:

      I had a prebuilt pie.

      We don't support 3rd party images, which is quite clearly outlined in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

      If you don't know how the image is configured, then you won't know how to fix any issues which may occur - start with the official image from https://retropie.org.uk/download if you wish we can offer you support here in the forums.

      I already tried /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame

      Just an alternative for you.
      I am surprised you never tried this :
      If you install the arcade category from the add-mamedev-systems.sh script the rompath /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame will be added in the loader lines for lr-mame and mame.
      (only in the loader lines created by this script, I have to mention)
      So then the less important roms can be placed in :
      /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame

      Just have a try !

      @geese-howard said in MAME 0.247 in RPi3:

      Anyone uses it from https://stickfreaks.com/mame?

      There is a spreadsheet showing a good performance using latest build - .0247, however i dont know how to install it.

      If you wait a week or so the mame0.247 will be as binary in the RetroPie-Setup and you know it will work for sure without a lot of hassle.

      But if you really want to try you can easily use it.
      Be aware of the fact that the binary can fail with some distributions.
      Not sure it will still work on Buster 10 distributions, but you can try.

      If you have already mame installed earlier from the experimental section, which makes sure all dependencies and configs are installed, then you can just download and copy the files from within the zip file to :
      /opt/retropie/emulators/mame

      Optionally you can rename the old folder, earlier on, from :
      /opt/retropie/emulators/mame to /opt/retropie/emulators/mame.bak for example.

      You have to do the commands as root with sudo.

      ~/RetroPie-Setup/ext/RetroPie-Share/scriptmodules/supplementary

      @Folly

      I did not find a second version in ~/RetroPie-Setup/ext/RetroPie-Share/scriptmodules/supplementary, but I deleted any other versions of the file on my system - in the trash folder, download folder, etc...and that did the trick.

      I will try the ParaDOS options again later and report back.

      The ParaDOS options are visible and they do load ParaDOS.
