@tpr It looks better but still not full res. I have no experience with mame2016 but afaik bezels in current mame should be high res (latest mame won't run on Pi).
As you are using lr-mame2003plus would you try my overlay for GORF that uses both LR overlay + mame backdrop (for the lamps animations):
      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/20486/backdrops-in-mame2003-plus/330
      It is high res.

@mrnoholster I don't think that they'll be implemented in lr-mame2016 any time soon.

As I said, you can install the mame emulator and try running the game with it - it's the same emulator you've seen running on PCs with the effects you mention.

Who is still using old binaries from the gdrives ?
I probably want remove quite a lot in the near future.
      Let me know !

@mrnoholster yes. just launch the other version. note, if you're using a split romset you will need to include the parent rom (typically the one without a revision in the file name) in the same directory for dependencies to be met. if you're using a non-merged romset it won't matter - each rom is standalone and should launch.

any problems please fill out https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first including verbose log

@mrnoholster what happened is you updated fb-neo which requires a new rom set. The old roms are not for newer versions.
FYI. Updating arcade emulators to newer versions is risky as there is no guarantee that the update will work with your roms. Don’t update them if you have a working set of games. Most roms may be fine in if you just go up to the next update, but if you keep updating, there will reach a point where fewer and fewer roms run.

@gorf said in Can't get older ROM's to appear in the GUI.:

The contents of most of the directories of roms are full of .bin files. Trying to run the latest version of Mame on my laptop (Arch Linux) with a few test roms seems to be... uh, odd. It gives me a huge list of games that I don't have. And doesn't seem to see the test roms I setup.

You need to filter the list by the 'available' games, I think by default MAME will list all the games it knows about.

I've seen several people mention on this forum older versions of Mame. But the main Mame site has a LOT of older releases. I'm not sure I understand which versions I should try against. All of them? Yikes!

Matching random ROMs to a MAME release is pointless, since the ROMs don't have a version attached. The recommended method is to get the ROMs for the version supported by the MAME version you have/intend to use - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/ and the links from that page.

      Your welcome !

I replied your thread because we also have to learn a great deal about MAME.

I want to ask you : " Can you make a summarize in your first post for us on what you have learned so far about these MAME configs ? "

Then we can read this again, and create a much better picture on how this works.

@jiryn said in Sound Issues with System 32 Games in MAME2003, 2010 and 2016 (Jurassic Park):

      @barbudreadmon
Interesting, and I never use the controllers in bluetooth mood, they are always hard wired to the console with USBC
Never tried overclocking, just use it stock for the most part.

More interested in the best em ups anyways, but Jurassic Park was always a fav.

The Sega system 32 graphical rewrite circa MAME97-98 will always cause performance issues on lesser devices,
as @barbudreadmon suggested quite often this can cause skipping and or other sound issues. MAME2003
is one of the fastest cores and apart from that it uses the faster although slightly more imperfect system 32
video code from before the big rewrite i mentioned above.

So it might be your best bet to get the best performance on your device of choice and may sort your sound problems
when playing Jurassic Park it's worth a try at least.

Special kind of stick, for controling movement whilst shooting in another direction (example ikari warrior),

Ah, OK. I learned something here!

      "Eierlegende Wollmilchsau"

Hahahahaha! I learned another thing today! Yes, I totally understand.

P.P.S.: Seeing such Wiki Articles now(adays) are somewhat frustrating me: Analog-Stick - sigh...

That article leaves a lot to be desired. Lots of words, and yet says very little that's useful!

I may take another pass at searching for details on the UltraStik 360 + RetroPie, and think more carefully whether it's something I might want to try — or not. Part of me, at this point, wants to just load MAME directly on something like an Intel NUC, running Windows, and call it done. I really only use the arcade functionality of RetroPie, and perhaps another platform would be better suited to what I actually want.

But... The tiny little Raspberry Pi is appealing for many reasons — cost among them — so who knows.

      Thanks for replying.

@jiryn map dpad and analog to UI under input general.

Mame2003 does not natively support analog so you'll need to use analog to digital after mapping your dpad.

      Mame2003-plus does natively support analog

Make sure you're mapping (up dpad and up analog) to everything you want to be able to use either on.
