@akamming heya I just did an update at source and it doesn't seem to have this issue? Maybe try updating now?

sorry for late reaction. I reported an issue on gliden64 and it turns out this issue occurs with FB Emu off on PAL games. so now using USA roms and then it works fine. Will hopefully be fixed in a future release.

Thanks very much for the detailed reply, it seems like the benefits will outweigh the pretty minimal cost.

@dodonpachi Interesting! I'll have a play at some point. Thank you.

When I first started with this, just having it playable was the aim!

@truglodite said in How can I boot RetroPie from NVMe or SSD (without SD)?:

I am guessing retropie still will write heavily to the sd card despite roms being on an external, correct? Not sure if sd wear is a big deal with retropie, so figured I'd ask if it was and if there's a similar way to mitigate.

Not really, gaming is not a write-heavy process. Game saves and save states are written to the ROM's folder by default and unpacking .zip ROMs is usually done in RAM.
There is no constant write load using RetroPie, like a monitoring/data collection/aggregation process entails, so a good sdcard and proper power source is usually enough.

That fixed my problem - thanks for your help.

I've just made a donation to Retropie because it's my favourite community project and your help, although a bit tart, was faster and more useful than any paid support I've ever received.

Hello Thatsnotmyname, apologies for slow reply.
I'm hoping you are sorted by now, but if not I have used a program called RGBCommander:

      http://users.telenet.be/rgbcommander/

Mahuti, a user on the arcade controls has done a full guide to its installation and use.

      http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,153009.msg1613922.html?PHPSESSID=1h8ma5tb060mq3r3bl84r4rklt#msg1613922

Hope it goes ok for you

Afaik there isn't gles support. If GL is slower it will be because it's using non accelerated rendering. Which is likely the case. It shouldn't be enabled by default on the RPI also.

I get much faster boot times with my bluetooth (8bitdo) controllers turned off. Since that's an acceptable workaround for me, I haven't dug in to figure out what's wrong. My expected boot time is around 30 seconds on a 4. I'm only running retropie.

      This thread may help:
      https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=182356

      It suggest running systemd-analyze blame.

you should be able to just update as usual - https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Updating-RetroPie

as always, take a backup first.

Thank you. I'll give it a go.
