If I am reading correctly all you need is to get emulators designed for x86 processors, mednafen for ps1 maybe? Install it same as you would mame. RetroPie’s default emulators aren’t designed for pc

With regards to the controllers, definitely. Check the documentation: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/GPIO-Modules/#gamecon_gpio_rpi

Power buttons are a bit more difficult, as the Pi needs to be shutdown cleanly, you can't just rip the power away and expect it to be fine next time (sometimes it is, but not always). You could create a custom shutdown script or use something like the PowerBlock or actually, to combine the function you could use the ControlBlock https://blog.petrockblock.com/controlblock/

@mitu said in Metal Gear Solid switching disks:

@smokingman The 'workaround' is how you're supposed to switch disks - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#disc-swapping-for-multi-disc-games-in-retroarch.

what i read into this guide is that it is supposed i open eject disk tray, and than switch index to 2/2, and then the guide suggest to select the disk2.cue or .bin file.
if i do that i say it do not work.
it work only if i DO NOT select the disk2.bin or cue file.
it is enough to set index on 2/2, and push again disk tray cycle to close it, and quit the menu.
the guide do not claims that.

but tanks anyway to help me, really bro :)

Either that or my defaults were already overwritten by today's change :)

That could be the case. Mine was 'Auto' and I didn't run the update beforehand.

Nice, but so where is this advanced speed hacks menu then?

Looking at the menu source at https://github.com/libretro/pcsx_rearmed/blob/40c380a8e8080ecb38159ee5aad1ce149e9889fc/frontend/menu.c , there seem to be a ton of options missing, such as plugin selection, memory card options, advanced speed hacks etc.

It looks like these options were part of a native menu system of the standalone emulator which is disabled/unsupported in Retroarch. I made an issue here: https://github.com/libretro/pcsx_rearmed/issues/176
You can see on this blog how the menu options in the original emulator looked. They appeared on a press of ESC.
      https://retroresolution.com/2016/01/01/playstation-emulation-on-the-pi-enhancing-the-experience-with-the-options-menu-part-one-basic-features-and-save-states/

Since the native menu system is based on a menu rendering library not available in Retroarch (libpicofe), the solution is to map all the missing options into the Retroarch Quickmenu. Currently, only some of the options are mapped to the Quickmenu.

@cajacks1 Are you sure you configured the Select key as a Hotkey and you didn't choose something else during the input configuration setup ? The exit shortcut is Hotkey + Start, so if you chose a different key as Hotkey, Select + Start might not work.

@willindiana You can edit retroarch.cfg and set the driver. May I suggest you try also the lr-beetle-psx core ? It has Vulkan support and since you're on x86 it can be installed from the optional packages section.

I can confirm that using latest RetroPie in latest Raspbian Stretch with stable EmulationStation it does recognise files >2GB as @mitu stated:

      Created a test "rom":

      $ dd if=/dev/zero of=$HOME/RetroPie/roms/psx/test.pbp bs=1M count=3072

Then restarted ES, the rom appears and ES tries to launch it normally. Of course the emulator returns immediately, but it IS recognised by ES:

      lvl2: EmulationStation - v2.7.6rp, built Jul 11 2018 - 17:57:30 ... lvl2: Attempting to launch game... lvl2: /opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ psx /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/psx/test.pbp

@a12c4 My suggestion was for the situation you described where you have a .cue and an .img, it's clear that the .img functions as a .bin file. Give it a try and see if it works.
For other things, you could get away without a .cue file, but I don't think it will work for the situation you described - .bin containing both data and audio data. A .bin without a .cue means - for me - that there is only a data track on the disc image file, in which case you can rename it to either .iso or .img and don't generate a .cue. If the .bin/.img/.iso contains something else besides 1 data track, then the emulator would not be able to separate or read the separate audio/video/whatever info because it would not know where to look them up.
