@mitu Yes. I did both. The virtual Keyboard does not have the HELP button for some reason. and yes, i have tried so many things. lol.

If anyone would like to try it in their lr-Hatari or Hatari just to get to the control screen in game, please i would love to see if anyone can do it!

      everyone be well.

@mitu Is there a way someone could walk me through step by step verbose logging like what that is and how I do it. I've been given this link
      https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/#launch-with-verbose-logging
and I still kinda have no idea how to go about doing it.

@adnifty said in Can't load save file - "Loading Task Failed" when hitting select+left Bumper:

On save state corruption/empty, how would I check that? This isn't happening with other games, so I bet this is the case.

The save state file is a .state file in the same folder as the ROM (file name is the same as your ROM file). You can either overwrite it by doing another save or just remove the file.

      @soren42
Not sure if you managed to sort this, but I have just managed to transfer save files from OpenEmu to Retropie successfully.

You can only transfer battery saves though (.sav) which means only games which allow you to save in game.

You cannot transfer OpenEmu save states (.oesavestate) as far as I can tell.

To transfer battery saves, copy and paste the .sav file into your retropie ROM folder, ensure the name is the same as the ROM, then change the file to .srm (literally just type it).

      Example:

      OpenEmu battery save: Earthbound.sav
      Retropie battery save: Eathbound.srm

Once you’ve done that, restart emulation station, load your rom, and your save game will automatically be there.

Appreciate this is an old post, but I’ve just spent the last 2 days trying to figure this out and just managed it by trial and error.

      Enjoy.

I see you're running the ROM from an external disc, did you mount this manually or using the automated method ?

@mitu and @top-specci FYI, if you want your games to always load at a predefined area (Bypassing a long intro, etc)

Create a save state through Retroarch like normal, find that saved state "yourgame.state" and add ".auto" to the end of it

Ensure that you have savestate_auto_save = "false" and savestate_auto_load = "true" in your /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg file (Or specific config file of your choice)

This will give you the flexibility you need, without worrying that you will override that default save state to load your game by.

@mitu said in Suddenly my save states dosent work.:

Save states are not always portable between emulators, so a save state from lr-gambatte might not worth with lr-mgba . Is the emulator version the same as the one you used for the save states ? Sometimes an upgrade of the emulator makes it incompatible with previous versions' save states.

Hmm maybe it's because of an emulator upgrade. I played the game for a couple of month before I did the backup. And after I think I did an update. Thanks, I did not know it might cause a problem. At least the "normal" save file works.

@cyperghost said in Suddenly my save states dosent work.:

@lesk ... and it's more likely that a battery savestate gamename.srm will work more reliable and may be portable to other emulators ;)

Thanks, yeah the normal game save seems to work just fine ^^

@VictimRLSH Yes. I often transfer savestates between raspberry pi, PC and my phone and they work if you're using the same core.

@mitu The rewind feature seems to work well in SNES, NES, and MD and with this setup that is 99.9% of what I play so I think I'm good.

As for the controller issue I have tried a few pre-made images and I haven't experienced this setup issue. I have re-downloaded this official image, flashed it, and tried it again and I get the same results so not sure if it is this latest release or what, so I don't know if it is a bug. I would reflash and try with a clean install and with some of the controllers I had, one from 8-bitdo, retro-bit, retroflag, and then the ones that came with my PS1 Classic all with the same results; The retroarch controller file isn't being written correctly. When setup in emulation station it works correctly in those menus but when I enter an emulator all the buttons don't work. I need to go into retroarch and set it up there like I said in my previous post.

I guess if no one reports this it is just me with the setup I have but mine is pretty standard: The official image I download from here, raspberry 3b+, retroflag NES case, and every controller I have. Maybe it is the pi I have? Anyway, I have it working now but when the next release comes out I will give it a try and see if it sorts out my problems.

Thanks for the help though! Besides this little problem I got everything I wanted from the official image and it works great.

      Hi there,

So I left my Raspberry Pi alone for a month and when I came back to it I started fresh. I think the problem was with my HDD.

So I think my HDD was previously formatted to exFAT file system. The only options I had were NTFS and exFAT. I found this person on youtube called Eta Prime and his videos were a big help, especially this one:

It explains how to format your drive to FAT32

I flashed the image to the SD again and formatted my HDD to FAT32 and added the "retropie-mount" folder as shown in the video.

Then I searched some more videos on his channel of which bios were needed for the different emulators and how to add the games.

I found out how to "unECM" the ECM files from my PlayStation games and I'd say at the moment about 90% of the games work and I can save using the save state feature + via the in-game save mechanics.

The emulators I have used up to this point are: GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, N64, Megadrive and PS1.

So yes, I'd say the problems are now solved. Maybe one more thing I'd like to try is activating my RetroAchievements account so I can earn achievements on some of the games. I got it to work previously, but I don't know how anymore because it's been over a month ago.

Big shout out to Eta Prime. Check his channel here:

@roxton looks like it's supported. I found a relevant post on the lr-mupen64plus GitHub.

      https://github.com/libretro/mupen64plus-libretro/issues/16

There are instructions on there how to get it to work. Though whether it's still accurate or applies to a RPI setup I'm not sure.

@furtin As long as you use Emulators beginning with „lr“ (for libretro), you can use the hotkeys from RetroArch for loading, saving, and choosing the save slot. See https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#hotkeys
