The Pi4 is not supported by RetroPie yet - either with the image(s) provided on the download page or through the manual installation (over Raspbian).

    @Carnov
If you have no interest in any "3D gaming" then your best bet is the Pi 3B+. It's extremely reliable and the support is outstanding. I can get nearly all systems to run quite well, up to and including, Playstation 1 emulation which was considerably more powerful than any 16-bit console up to that point, barring a couple. If you're planning on emulating systems like the NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, etc from the late 1980's to the mid to late 1990's then the 3B+ will do everything you'll ever need it to.

Like I said, the support for this model is outstanding here. I have nearly zero knowledge of the intricacies of any version of Linux and I was able to get the OS installed and my system running with very little trouble. Just make sure you follow the instructions. All systems after installation will require a period of time for you to acclimate yourself to the OS, RetroArch, Emulation Station and the many settings and options you'll have to browse and fiddle with to get everything right where you want it.

Each game can have custom options through RetroArch and the amount of control given to the end-user is fantastic. I truly commend the RetroPie team for all their hard work.

    Thanks @psyke83 ...

Reguarding the input-keyboard, LED, rumbler and battery status ... All just extra info, hoping that something might help. As a note, the controller was left on all day and night, with no change in the battery state. And it too is listed as a keyboard. This morning the controller was off. I did think that it had run flat. Pressed the PS button, controller started up and paired not problem, thou the LED1 is blinking. Battery state is still fully-charged, so I am thinking this might not be reporting anything.

Totally understand how hard trying to debug or assist with something like this. I looked at the hid-sony.c file and my eyes glazed over ... I would not know where to start to make any difference, let alone how to compile and test.

I am happy to try any change you think might help or give us more info. I don't get notifications on this forum, but I can open an issue or watch your branch at GitHub for any changes and test them out?

Is there a possibility that I can eBay gift you one of these controllers? Thou I don't remotely think you might get the same version that I have, as that info is never listed on eBay, just that it's a PS3 controller.

    Thanks

Well yes this did get the BB-GAME controller working in emulation station. And non-retroarch emulators. Unfortunately, Retroach hates this controller for some reason.

Actually, you can't even manually change the config file. It seems that jstest & emulationsation interpret one button as "0" but retroarch interprets that same button as "3". So yeah, you can fix button 10 by changing the config file to say "7" but retroarch doesn't like buttons to have negative numbers assigned so this doesn't work as a long term solution.

Many will say "buy a different controller." The Amazon is so far away. Also, the cost-benefit analysis of using a pi and retropie compared to buying something like the Allcade was that I wouldn't be needlessly buying things that I already had!

@mitu The rewind feature seems to work well in SNES, NES, and MD and with this setup that is 99.9% of what I play so I think I'm good.

As for the controller issue I have tried a few pre-made images and I haven't experienced this setup issue. I have re-downloaded this official image, flashed it, and tried it again and I get the same results so not sure if it is this latest release or what, so I don't know if it is a bug. I would reflash and try with a clean install and with some of the controllers I had, one from 8-bitdo, retro-bit, retroflag, and then the ones that came with my PS1 Classic all with the same results; The retroarch controller file isn't being written correctly. When setup in emulation station it works correctly in those menus but when I enter an emulator all the buttons don't work. I need to go into retroarch and set it up there like I said in my previous post.

I guess if no one reports this it is just me with the setup I have but mine is pretty standard: The official image I download from here, raspberry 3b+, retroflag NES case, and every controller I have. Maybe it is the pi I have? Anyway, I have it working now but when the next release comes out I will give it a try and see if it sorts out my problems.

Thanks for the help though! Besides this little problem I got everything I wanted from the official image and it works great.

Right, so after many hours of fiddling around with Amiberry, reading docs, etc., I have figured things out on my own.

As a little bit of help to others who might be scratching their heads when little more than a terminal is loaded instead of a game I'd highly recommend double checking the settings. Amiga (Amiberry) emulation is no where nearly as straight forward as other plug-and-play systems. While I figured I could simply make global changes and have things run easily I quickly (that is lie....way too much time if I am truly honest) came to realize that each and every game has to be setup and configured before they are booted.

With that said, setting up for the proper BIOS, ram, etc. and saving the configurations are key.

@lmjiang1 hello i had this same issue with xu4 retroarena, m30 after reboot i get no pair, m30 would pair but couldnt do anything in game or ES, i updated m30, no luck.
Xu4 has only 3 ports i had a hdd connected, wifi usb, bt dongle all my usb connects gone so i thought maybe i need to connect to 3.0 usb, i bought 2 bt and same issue happen.
I then added a multi usb but it would do the same thing, i had some try m30 with thoses 20 dollar usb bt by with like super mario block design and i thought i need one of thoses, same thing happen, no pairing all what i have type above.

So i gave it about 2 months and asked again and tried again, once i had turned on the xu4 after months it paired right up like nothing had happened, so i played.
I had help and we tired to pair with switch mode and android but no luck i was fed up dude.

The guys at retroarena dont know what it is, i been waiting for about 1 month in a half but i havent bothered anymore.

But the m30 works fine with all other machines, just might be the xu4 cos someone else tired and did the same thing, might be your pi2 is the samething.
Works fine on my pi3b+ i used thme and pair just fine.

So my solution at the end since i got xu4 for saturn and just more power i put it away and ordered a pi4 and works super awesome!
I installed yabause on desktop and played dracula x.

Im sorry that it acts the way it does and i hope someone can help.

Hey @nestor1924 , I’m not sure if you noticed, but it’s “scraper” not “scrapper”. These helpful little apps “scrape” the internet for images/video/metadata. I know, is seems like scrap-booking, pulling all of the media together, but I thought you might appreciate the difference, not that it really matters. I guess it’s a pet peeve of mine which is obviously my problem, not yours. Anyway, it might help doing research too, to avoid misspellings in a search.

@Tackskull .ecm files are not supported by the emulator, you need to convert them to .bin - https://visihow.com/Decompress_PlayStation_1_Games_from_ECM_to_BIN_Using_UnECM

@GoodBoy said in [PiShrink] Creating new /etc/rc.local does not end - takes forever.:

    @mitu

    My apologies.

I would say I waited about an hour and it was still trying to create the etc/rc.local

It is a 64GB card, with about 32GB used space. I have just put the image on a 128GB card and I am going to camp this one out for a few hours.

If that doesn't work, I am thinking about removing the etc/rc.local and retrying it. Not too sure what that will achieve but it's worth a go.

@GoodBoy Why are you trying to shrink the image if you are going to place it on a 128 GB card ? Do a backup of the image..transfer it to the 128GB card and .you will have to expand the filesystem to access the full space on the card
