Nice job man! Definitely an upgrade from the cardboard box! =D

Very clean and I'd digging the shallow depth.

I see - in this case your project is just a regular RetroPie box (any case would do) and connect 4 external fightstick controllers - via USB (possibly you'll need an USB hub to not bog all 4 USB ports on the Pi) or Bluetooth.

I was just wondering is it possible to play it on Retropie?

It would require Windows. There's always the unreleased Atari800/5200 prototype. It's not nearly screen-accurate, but it is completely period-accurate and obviously the home version that Atari planned to release.

@robertvb83 Thank you too for the elaborate answer, I may have similar decoders (if they show up as DragonRise in Retropie), but I never felt compelled enough to test their special ports.

I can absolutely understand your reasons for forgoing the door (yet). That said, I can recommend magnets for the back door. They can be mounted easily, and it would spare you the screwing every time.

The speakers are not that important. I am just curious what parts other builders use. So, you don't have to look them up just for me, but feel free to post their information here if you happen to stumble over it sometime.

I first tried some cheap speakers, too, but then I decided to go for reasonable higher quality and spent 70 € in total for these:

My mini aplifier even has an output for a subwoover, so I may add one to the cabinet someday. :)

Can you share a script that will send the current game name to the LCD matrix? I ordered 3x LCD Matrix from AliExpress, size 64x32 px (192x32). I would like to display either a text with the title of a game or a wheel-playing game.

I will try to set up the settings according to these instructions: https://github.com/hzeller/rpi-rgb-led-matrix/

I use this board to connect to Raspberry GPIO : https://www.electrodragon.com/product/rgb-matrix-panel-drive-board-raspberry-pi/

@mrmarblz The trackball will need an interface board. Some arcade trackballs are sold without that, so be sure you have a solution for it or add on the interface if you have that option. The controller board will accept the wires from the trackball and will connect to the Pi via USB and should appear as a mouse to the Pi. Same with each light gun. If your table is wired with AC power your USB hubs can be powered and plugged into AC inside the table, so you can add as many hubs as you need.

If the Servostik is just a USB device, it gets 5 volts that way. The current draw would be as much as any gamepad plus maybe more while the server is engaged. Why would this be a problem

I would definitely use a powered USB hub for all of these devices, as you don't want the power to come from the Pi's AC/DC adapter. You don't want the Pi to have power issues because of all of the peripherals attached, and powered hub(s) should take care of that.

In order for the removable arcade controls to connect via USB, they will need to be wired internally to some kind of interface. There may be good choices for this, but a cheap option might be to hack four gamepad controllers and just wire your controls to the buttons etc.

This is an ambitious project. Check out my 4 player cocktail system. Mine is a bit simpler, but I had different challenges. My only question for you is: Why, no spinners?
