Update RetroPie-Setup script - it should now map escape to button x so you can quit. Although I still recommend a keyboard for RetroPie-Setup configuration.

@guitarans when it asks for hotkey unless your controller doest have a key you can assign to select, you really should use select as your hotkey. That is how it was originally designed. The only reason they added the hotkey option in the controller config menu in emulationstation was because of people using controllers like the n64 controller or dreamcast controller where they dont have a button to assign to select. It used to automatically assign it to select.

@jbob101 should be select+start, or hotkey+start if you changed the hotkey.

Can somegive tell me which PINs to use from the original SNES Reset button, so I can solder 2 wires and connect one to GPIO17 and the other one to GND of the Raspberry?
I don't know which one is which one and am unsure if the picture is correct or not.

@zmanz It doesn't support the hotkeys you might have setup for retroarch emulators, but there is definitely a way to map the EXIT command to two buttons. You need to open up the MAME GUI menu (TAB) and edit the Inputs (General) then scroll down to UI Cancel which is usually mapped to Esc. Hit enter on this item, then press your two buttons at the same time. Wait a moment, and it should register a "1 5" for that function.

What you are doing is called a <CODE AND> boolean key map by pressing both buttons at the same time you are telling MAME you want the function to trigger only when both are pressed. If you don't move to another function, you can map another key, say for example that you want to also keep ESC mapped, you can add that one right after. If you move away to another mapping function and come back, it will be replaced.

You can do some pretty nifty stuff with <CODE AND> mapping as well as <CODE NOT> mapping (in which you double-tap a button to exclude it). With AND and OR and NOT combinations, it is possible to make a single joystick move a tank that would normally require two tank sticks.

@Spiky said in DOSBox - Won't return to RetroPie menu when game ends:

I was sure there must be way how to do it without losing one key to it.

I have all of my 38 emulated systems and various ports mapped to exit out with 'select+x' so that I don't lose an individual key that could otherwise be used for game play. It's also just easier to remember. There's a bit of setup involved, but when using a controller, the final result gives everything in RetroPie that cohesive console feeling.

Okay, installed everything from a fresh RetroPie 4.1 image and also clean install of AM from source. I'm on version 2.2.0 of AM and everything is working as expected. The ghosted keys are no longer an issue, and as a result I don't need to futz with different key settings for exiting a game in retroarch. I'd like to figure out why that was an issue for me, but for now what I have is working. In windows I programmed the "exit" buttons for my minipacs with the WinIPac program to be macros of "start+select" and it works perfectly.

As a side note, it seems the issue was with sfml-pi. This explains why my 2.2.0 AM was still giving me issues. I had not gone back all the way in the steps to the sfml-pi portion.

      Thanks all.

@Kristopherson05 You have duplicated your question. You have asked this in this thread:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/5145/escape and you still don't provide ALL the information as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

      misc_safequit = no

Where have you added this? What guide did you follow (if any) and have you posted the config to pastebin so that it can be inspected?

P.S. I have just read through some of your previous posts since July and numerous people have continually pointed you to read the https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first yet it looks like you still haven't done so. Don't be surprised if your posts go ignored if you continue to ask random questions without providing the required information or taking the time to search this forum first.

Hello, so it is definitely so that the metadata is not saved, if one it off via the power button. Does anyone have experience in whether or not in the Mausberry script something can be changed, that it is properly closed and then the Pi is down?

Reviving this, because I just found out that you can have the hotkey act as a dedicated pausekey if in Retroarch you assign it to the same button press.

In my situation, my middle front button on my arcade is mapped to keyboard "o".
In Retroarch I assigned both my hotkey and my toggle pause key to "o", and this means that games pauses when I press it, but it still serves as a hotkey, so the other hotkey commands works as well (though the game pauses).

Not sure if this will work as an exit button (the game will then exit when you hotkey), but with pause it does!

I'm a total newbie about to make a very simular setup, so I wonder if this is working out for you or there are any problems?

Having one insert coin button (and not two) , and 2) having it double as select. Having Hotkey and Exit Emulator set to the same button?
